I oughta take you to a pond in Cape Elizabeth Me. Where their wild and huge! Haven't got a clue what their eating to make them so big. I'm talking 15" average. Me and a friend iced about 30 or so on tip-ups. Imagine jigging! Not a lot of pressure there. But have good access to it . Start a perch guide service maybe?  FH
Do it you wont be sorry!

Nice to hear something positive about Yellow perch in ME. Ya never know....if it became popular the state could make some money......Ask someone from Lake Simcoe CA how many Americans flock there and spend money just to chase Yellow (Eagle Bait). Again, its nice to hear something positive. Good Idea.

DNR Or here it's IFW (Inland Fisheries and Wildlife) Don't even look after this pond as far as I know. Don't really think their non-native, just very thick in a lot of ponds to the point where some times that's all you catch. No complaints when we are targeting them. Chew up a lot of bait!  Rich

I wasn't putting them down. I love 'em. But I do know they aren't native up there and they seriously compete with naturally reproducing brook trout.

Not Really, different species. It is a Red Fin, not a yellow perch.
I wish we had them here though!

The site doesn't have pictures, hopefully someone knows of a picture I would like to see one also.If you would like to see Mi State records the site is www.michigan.gov/dnr look under fishing and then on  the upper left.  That fish must have been old enough to vote.  The lk is in the upper UP.

I have a retired teacher/taxidermist friend from Gladwin, Michigan that is a perch fanatic. Whenever he hears of a monster perch mounted somewhere in a bar or something he takes a drive to check it out. I'll have to ask him if he knows of a pic of that fish.

Here is just a couple from the best lake in the state of NY for massive perch..
 caught in the fall...
Tough lake to fish, I caught 6 of these this size in one day on Seneca..
Also been skunked there many times  both are over 2 lbs, and on the wall.

Agreed Brian.  NY is the perch capital of the Northeast.  Just the Finger Lakes alone produce both massive size and numbers of fish.  Then you have Onieda, Ontario and Erie.  Heck of a starting line-up.  Here is a link of the results of the perch masters tourney held every spring on the Finger Lakes....a little perch porn.

how  comes NY has only won the perch category once since it began???????

Just think if PA had any big water besides lake erie to fish for numbers of perch.  we do not have those big bodies of water that are just full of alwives and smelt for the perch to get big on.  If we we had a few big waters teaming with lots of forage and some perch we we would blow any state out of the water.  We manage to get perch just as big with the smaller bodies of water that we got and judging from from past tourneys and this years tourney so far ours are looking bigger.

do you really think the perch know what state they are living in?  Yes NY has some major bodies of water in it. Personally i dont fish them. I stick to the smaller lakes, and yes there are some jumbos in those too. Just as im sure there are some jumbos in Pa,NJ, and probably even more states than that.....devils lake out west has big perch i think?? No need to argue about which one has bigger fish...its like saying my dad and beat up your dad...yadda yadda yadda

You guys do put a couple decent ones on the ice once in a while, but where are the numbers?  Aside from Jazz's pics from about 6 years ago that keep popping up, I have yet to see you PA guys post pics of consistant piles of jumbos like our NY waters.  When you have world class trout, salmon, walleye, musky, and pike waters around, as well as some of the best bass waters in the country (BASS Elite series comes here to several bodies of water), the perch often get overlooked and taken for granted.  Most of the diehards that fish them up here rather fillet and release them in hot oil rather than take a pic and enter them into an online tourney.   I don't mean to sound like a jerk but that is the way it is up here.....too many fish and not enough time.  If the Finger Lakes pics weren't enough, here is more porn from a bay down the road......

I never said we had more quality perch numbers wise.  I was talking about size.  And apart from some of the pics that i have seen from seneca and The big pond you have a bunch of large perch (not jumbos).  I have caught probably hundreds if not thousands of perch since i was kid comming up there fishing places like sodus, some of the smaller bays west of rochester and some of the rivers and caught plenty of big perch.  But i can get big perch anywhere.  and my chances of getting a jumbo are better down here then up there unless i was on seneca.

and apart from the st lawaurence, the niagra river, and  lake otisco there are no other worldclass musky waters.  I have not seen any pics of truly world class pike, and a 30 pound king is not world class.

What about Chatauqua, Waneta, and Lamoka ?  I don't fish for them but I can think of at least these 3 off the top of my head.

I have not seen any pics of truly world class pike,

The WORLD RECORD that stood for over 40 years came from NY,  Sacandaga res.

How about the CURRENT WORLD FRESHWATER RECORD coho salmon record...right from NY baby!

Wrong, without Ontario, Erie, and Seneca you still have Onieda, Honeoye, Conesus, Canandaigua, Cayuga, Skaneatlas, Owasco, Delta, Keuka, Canadarago, all the NYC watersheds, etc. etc.  Don't believe me?  You should check NY's reports and conditions page.

Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers.

There is not a single negative thing that can come about a pile pf big perch, esp. if you take the picture in your front lawn.
