Whitefish help ( Montana )
« on: Jan 18, 2011, 12:27 PM »
So, when I lived in Bigfork, I used to catch a TON of whitefish in Echo Lake, but I thought they tasted like garbage. Now that I live on Rock Creek, we have lots of  mountain whitefish in the river. I know they are different, but I have only had good mountain whitefish. I've had smoked mountain whitefish (river) and they were awesome! Does anyone have a recipe for these river dwellers, or maybe a thread I missed?

Thanks!

Pyro

Boy the way Glenn Miller played
Songs that made the hit parade.
Guys like us we had it made,
Those were the days.

And you knew who you were then,
Girls were girls and men were men,
Mister we could use a man
Like Herbert Hoover again.

Didn't need no welfare state,
Everybody pulled his weight.
Gee our old LaSalle ran great.
Those were the days

I can't help you with cooking, but you could probably find some help if you posted this in the hardwater cuisine forum

Dont know what kind of whitefish your catching in the river, but the lake whitefish we catch here are absolutely good any way that you like to cook fish.  Deep fried is my favorite followed closely by a good chowder.

Deep Fried is awesome, with a nice hickory smoke coming in second.

Fish can taste bad for several reasons, especially if they are not cared for properly after catching.

There is a bunch of recipes in the Hardwater cuisine forum, just do a search.

Hope this helps,

Wiener
