Spoons for whites?
« on: Jan 07, 2011, 12:56 PM »
I know there are all different kinds of jigging spoons.  I was just wondering if someone could post some pics of which ones work well for whites.  I usually use wire worms tipped with maggots but sometimes when the whites arnt biting it might be good to have something else in the tackle box.  Any suggestions would be awesome!
FLAAAAAAAAAAAAG!  Or should I say.... BELL!

These are what I get most of my whities on.

These Williams Ice Jigs work well also in sizes J50 & J60 in 1/2 &1/2 hammered finish.

I'll second Drifters response.
The only difference is I tip the badd boyz/meggs with minnows instead of micro tubes.

Swedish Pimples are the mainstay around here.

Tipped with a wax worm, or a dried mealworm works the best.

I just got back from a whitefishing trip on Green Bay.  It was my first time fishing for them and we found size 3 or 4 pimples worked okay, but a 1/8 oz gold Kastmaster was by far the best that day.  Tipped with 2 or 3 wax worms.

Agree with wiener, usually use gold pimples on the bay. Usually run a barrel swivel about 12-16" up the line with a treble hook above the swivel. Most hits on that upper hook.

What do you bait that treble with?

Williams J50 Ice Jig is about as good a spoon you can use for whitefish up this way.  I am going to try your extra treble idea with one of them.

This fish fell to a Williams J60 on Saturday like the one Drifter_016 posted above.
