Im still on here. Van-cleaver is too. This site isn't the great site like it used to be. Most people do all the posting on waste book now. I wish they would post conditions on here. This site has been to good me over the years I’ve met some great friends on here as well. Ice fisherman are the friendliest people.  :thumbsup:thumbsup:

Started in 1980, with an old spoon auger, on Upper Bucks county lakes. My first trip was on Peace Valley. When do you think the last time that lake was iced fished. Towhee was always the best lake and back then you even could get on Nockamixon.

That's sounds almost like me, except I had to scrap my Eskimo 2 years ago. Hope everyone is well and the rest of the old timers are around for a long, long time.

Builders here. Don’t get out out anymore. Got sick in 2016 and that knocked me out good. Better now but can’t handle the cold anymore. Sayers was my heaven on earth for many years. Miss it now. I get out there in my boat in warm weather and sit comfortably jigging with my ice rods and vexilar in the cut over the side of the boat. Can’t wait to get out there again. Everyone safe safe and dry

Yeah legs aren't as nimble as they used to be, don't know how I would handle drilling through 25 inches with a hand auger at Tobyhanna anymore. Now My sons drag around my 10 inch  Jiffy dinosaur to drill holes. Met alot of good people, many not around anymore or retired from the sport, remember always seeing Perchjerker at Promised Land no matter what the weather, The fun Gouldsboro Tournaments. Went first time in early 70's when I was a pup at Beltzville, that was the day that 2 guys fell through the ice and drowned by Preachers there, Think it was a Sunday , late season Feb or early March, 70 degree freek heat wave, some open water, something I would never ever do today, Still some great, accurate,  condition reports on here from spider and other guys . Amazing how the equiptment has evolved the last 20 years, life goes on :(

Not sure if I count as an old timer, but I  have been ice fishing for probably 35+ years and have been a member of the IS site for about 17 years.

I agree, not as many quality posts as there were years ago, but there still are  enough to keep me coming back.

Hope to meet some of the old timers on the ice soon.

Blessed to have reached 70 so I guess I qualify. Sadly this is shaping up to be he shortest ice season in memory. Be careful out there; there were two incidents here yesterday (SE PA) and probably will be more today. Be safe all!

I’m still visiting the site but not fishing much anymore. Guess I’ll formally retire from the ice this year. I’m 72 now and dragging all that stuff up and down the hills to get to the ice takes its toll on me now. Even with my Smitty sled. You guys keep on enjoying your time on the ice. I have for a long time. Enjoyed this site greatly over the years.

I’m 72 been fishing hard water  when I was in my teens….I have seen many changes from getting on the ice in late November  to being lucky to get on in January. Fishing feet of ice to be lucky to have  4  ins …I do not fish skinny ice even with a  float site. Be safe and don’t take charges. There. Is no fish worth your life…be safe tip ups  rod tips down…

You know that old trees just grow stronger
And old rivers grow wilder every day
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello"
(John Prine)
Can't say we are lonesome old timers thanks to good friends on the ice.  Keep going as long as we can and never take it to seriously.  Just enjoy every minute.

been on here since 2003. First ice fishing trip was on Canonsburg dam with a few buddy's used dads hatchet chopped 2 holes. we had old Zebco reels and a "few beers "to stay warm.
guess we were out about 90 min. and all we heard was a loud cracking and felt the ice shaking . we ran like hell to shore .left my dads hatchet amid the beer never went back for either of them.
later that year dad asked if i saw the hatchet i said not recently.
your all right this is not the same  anymore I.S has gone south. I met tons of new friends on I.S.  found lakes the i had no idea where they were. lost track of most of the OLD TIMERS from here
in 71 now had open heart 2 yrs ago   I  find it hard to convince myself that is about time i hang up the auger
to all my friends thank you for the times we spent on the ice, didn't matter if we caught any thing or not  we had a blast .

to all of you good luck stay safe on the ice

I’m still around, 20 yrs on here, just not as much as I’d like to. 67 now and old age & health issues did me in, being on blood thinners for a DVT blood clot last year and havin ms makes it hard to handle the weather anymore, but I still chomp at the bit to get out, met some great guys, and always had a good time fishing with AP and Van, at least I got to teach my grandson the ropes before I involuntarily retired, but ya never know, Brady came back, lol.

I'm still here.
Mainly just a lurker anymore. I joined in 2002. I'm 60 years old now and a little bit rounder than I used to be. I still get out when we have ice. It has come full cicle for me. I used to take my son (lil maggot) out and keep him baited up and warm. Now that he is a spry 23, he does all of the work and takes care of me.

It's been 20 years on this forum for me. I don't post as much as I use to these days.
It's purely due to the fact that the last few years we're slim pickings for ice. It seems the days of having good ice mid December to mid March are long gone :'(

I'm still kicking. Will be 70 in a few months. I started ice fishing in the mid 80's and been on this site from 2003. I still enjoy it {when we have ice}. I must admit, it's not as easy as  it used to be. I'm on blood thinners dealing with AFIB, so I mind the cold more, but I will keep on fishing as long as I can. I didn't realize how many "oldtimers" were out there. Good to see. Gotta keep on moving and enjoy it when we can.

Reading thru this thread makes me feel YOUNG again! I'm only 58 so hopefully I have many ice seasons left!  ;) ;D

I started ice fishing many years ago mainly just to break cabin fever. Never really cared if I caught a fish or not. The goal was just to get out in the fresh air.  I started with a hand auger, one rod, a bucket to sit on and a couple lures. Over the years I made friends with some hard core ice anglers and started really getting into it! Now I probably have more gear than most. ANd I am out there as much as I can when we have safe ice.

Been a lurker on iceshanty for years and a recent transplant to Pa but started ice fishing in 1970. Was still in high school. Used hand me down gear that probably belonged in a museum. Home made tipups with lead weight slides. An iron chopping bar with a leather thong for the wrist. A strip of white bacon fat for bait. Fished the NYC reservoirs. Very few people on the ice back then.. it took a few years to learn how to catch fish.

I’m 72 this year. I’m probably gonna make this my last year on the ice. Gonna be selling a lot of really good stuff in February. When I’m done I’ll post pics of some of the gear. Eskimo shanty, Humminbird ice 5, portable livescope LV 32 only a year old, rod case, jet sled, rods and reels and jigs and spoons. Auger and chisel too. Extra lithium batteries and Aqua vue 5 micro camera too. Lots of great stuff. Pics will be posted in February. I’m hoping some guys will enjoy using this stuff for years to come. Chauncy.

I watched the site for a few years before I joined in 2017, and have been ice fishing for 45 years. Every year I pray we have seasons like the early 90’s when we were cutting through 20” of ice and fishing into late March/early April.
At 63 I’m still pretty active, but with the latest disappointing seasons I envision fishing the next great 20” ice season in a Jazzy with spiked tires dragging my junk behind me. Hope the battery holds up.

I’m not worried; if I “dirt nap” during the season my buddies will do “A Weekend at Bernie’s” with me.
They’re the kind of guys that kept calling my cellphone after I dropped it down a hole to see if it would bubble when it rang.

I'm 77 and if this year is done, I'll only put my gear away until next year.  God willing if I'm healthy, I'll be out on the ice.  I remember being at camp years ago in turkey season with my uncle when after supper he told me he couldn't wait to go ice fishing.  He was in his early 80's then and made it on the ice a few years after.  He's passed away since, but I think about him every time I get a chance to go.  He started me hunting when I was 14 and also took me fishing.  I wish he was still around; he was great company and a great teacher.  I'm sure he could still give me a tip of two on hunting, fishing, ice fishing and life.

We should have an outing/get together next ice season. We could have it at a state park area near the water. I was in a club where we had one every year. I can contact a State Rep for info. if you are interested.

I'd be interested in that but the big problem is Mother Nature needs to get her act together and give us a good ice fishing season, Lord knows we deserve it.  The other idea is we can start a GoFundMe to get a tanker load of liquid nitrogen to freeze a lake over for us.

Why not have it ON the lake? I’d be up for something like that...............

Maybe have a chili cookoff or something like that. Take a short break from fishing at mid-day and walk around and taste a sample of everybody’s cooking! 😋😋😋

Depending on how many of us there are and the quality of the chili it could put a big strain on the bathrooms.   ;D

Not sure if I qualify as an old timer, but I’d be up for an IS event to finally put some names and faces together after all these years of posting and reading.

My only condition for attending would be that I’m not actually invited.

I’d seriously question the judgement of anyone who would willingly invite me to anything.

But if I’m not invited, I’ll be there.,

Butcher, you are the Groucho Marx of ice fishing    ;D

Groucho Marx!!!!

Not only do I know who Groucho Marx is (and the rest of the Marx brothers for that matter), I didn't need to search the internet for the reference.

I can now officially confirm I AM old!

No. Only been to one “gathering” on the ice many years ago. It was organized by the owner of that “other” ice-fishing site(now defunct  ;) ;D)

That's what I'm talking about. We had outings at Lac State Park, Wilsonville/Pac, and Beltzville. I wonder if we could get permission to have one somewhere?

Yep, I’m still here. Only got out one time this year and still enjoying it. I miss the old NEPL days……lots of fun. The tournaments got me hooked and caused me to do something that I never considered before….traveling 2 1/2 - 3 hours to fish….even staying in a hotel overnight. GOOD TIMES.
