Dinks back down the same hole they come out of?
« on: Dec 11, 2008, 12:00 PM »
I have heard people say you should not release unwanted fish back down the same hole they come out of.  What does everyone think?  If you don't put them down that hole, how far away do you release them?  Do you release them right away or do you wait till you have a few?  I am referring to gils, perch etc.
Thanks

If I'm not keeping it, I throw it back down the hole I caught it from

The employment of effort, hard work, time, and energy put in locating fish will offend noone.

I always send em right back down unless I spot a big gator inchin his way in for a swipe at my PIKE bait hangin down there. The activity if anything seems to attract not distract. Just my opinion. Plus I darn sure am not going to get up every 1/2 minute to walk away from my hole to release a fish somewhere else. Just the opportunity the honyacks, gomers and goobers need to snatch my spot...... I'm just sayin ::)

Back down the same hole.  I also release it right away so the fish isn't injured at all.

small gills laying on the ice kills me...what do they do in the summer?  lay 'em in the bottom of the boat?
get real! other than a fish on the bed and a few dock huggers they bolt as soon as released and hide. out of the 50 million gills out there a couple might hit twice but seriously. drop 'em down the hole and let em grow!!
Lack of planning on your part in NO way constitutes an EMERGENCY on mine

Good one.

I know an old timer that swears the released fish will spook the others.  He always catches his limit of perch.

Throw 'em back in the same hole. They just dart off. Never thrown one back then had the other fish on my flasher stop biting so I doubt they talk to each other down there

Send 'em back where they came from (same hole). I too hate seeing little gills and stuff laying on the ice, how do people expect fish to grow big if they kill the little ones before they have a chance, just so they can keep a couple bigger ones (if the little ones actually warn the others ;D).
How many times do I gotta go through holes before I watch where I'm going? I am an amateur fisherman, but an all star minnow drowner!
