out board engine stand adapter
« on: May 30, 2019, 05:10 PM »
Hi all,

I wanted an engine stand for a large outboard so I can move it around the garage.

They are on the expensive side, so I made an adapter out of 2x12's, 3/8" bolts, and fender washers to use on my existing stand.

Its quite sturdy, but I don't think I would use a Three wheel stand.

I did add an extra pin, the stock one was just a tad sloppy.

I also put a piece of plywood on the bottom for control wires

Maybe the engine stand manufactures could offer a plate steel adaptor if they don't all ready do so?

Good Luck all

Joe in T.C. nice work modifying your existing stand just an idea/suggestion maybe use some 1x4 lumber and box in the plywood base to keep wiring from sliding off when the stand and motor are moved. I can see the wiring sliding of the plywood and getting damaged or caught in the wheels of the stand causing it to tip over and damage the motor and possibly injure person moving motor and stand.

Nice Joe. But why are you moving it around the garage?
Should be on a boat being used.... ;D
Yeah and don't kink those wires...   ;)

Hi Raquettedacker,

The plan was to put it on an old speed boat and hit some of our inland lakes.

A lot of old boats with bad motors pop up, just haven't found one I like yet.

I may sell it, but for now, I hold out hopes for that classic speed boat in great condition with no motor to be listed :)

Nice. You should find a nice boat to put it on.  Lot harder to find a good running outboard... ;)
