bait has sure has risen in price 2 bags salted minnows and one pkg of smelt (10) eighteen bucks ! i will have to catch a lot of fish to keep the cost per pound down or switch to
gulp .

I use the preserved shiners from walmart.
Work great, 3 sizes.
Smelt I get at albertsons.

Pick up a package of the cheapest hot dogs you can find at Walmart.  Hot dogs work as well as smelt at a fraction of the cost.

 i like the hot dog idea if the fish do not eat um i will have  brought lunch.

I cut them into quarters and add a lot of garlic powder and blue raspberry jello. I have tried other jello flavors when I couldn't find the blue raspberry and it didn't work as well.
