So..alot of us do things just because.....I spit on every bait before it goes down the hole..and maybe squirt a little scent on it. Also, I carry one of my great grand dad's traps and always set that one first. What do you do?

if im not getting any flags i do a few things one is def superstition the other two may not be. First off i check my baits bring them all the way up then back down again. Secondly, ill walk around my traps (ive gotten a few flags outta doing that) Thirdly, ill walk away from my traps, almost to the point where i cant see them, then walk back.

My 'fish call' is usually bean inspired.

No flag's??Start cooking something works for me..It will be just about done and I'll get a flag. It's either take it off the stove or burn it.

If I'm not getting flags I lift up each trap about 2-3 feet and slowly set it back down. I'm not sure if that's a superstition or a technique.
As soon as you do something other than jig or watch flags, you will probably get a fish. Taking a pee works best.

Assidfotidae oil its a sure thing Old Percy Baxter told my Dad and I years ago if you want fish to bite put a drop of Assidfotidae oil in a brook or in your fishing hole and you will catch them all. I finally got a bottle and the rest is history. Never go hungry.

When I'm in the hard side alone jigging, I believe I can't jig a fish unless my boots are off.. most of the time I'm barefoot in the shack..

Thanks for the correction on the Assidfotidae oil when using it be extra careful not to put more than one drop down the hole . Its powerful stuff with other fishermen around the lake the lake could be fished dry. They would not have to reclaim it.

My buddy thinks its bad luck to drink Arnold palmer on the lake...
And I always have better luck when I forget something important.

blow the fish whistle it pulls them in from distances and not the little guys.

When you skim out your hole make as much splashing as you can to an extreme . It will attract fish from all over the lake they think a feeding frenzy going on . then just get your hook down there and catch them.

Mostly, now that I’ve thought it over, having a superstition is bad luck. It is even a SIN if your a Christian :angel Have you NO FAITH! :-\ >:D :whistle: :icefish:

Never re-drill a hole. Setting up 1 foot away from one is ok though.

That said, 'bout the time I kick back with a sip of tkillya and put the flame to a Connecticut wrapped something, a flag pops.

I usually do just the opposite. I've though by reusing an old hole and letting it keep being useful would bring good karma. Also the old holes have rounded edges that don't cut line as easily.

Always pick up the first trap I set in the morning last.

I almost always set my traps facing the same direction, think it's more ocd than superstition though

I try not to do it too often but when after making a sacrifice to the fish gods usually do good. Like this past weekend lost a depth finder down the hole and caught fish.
Also have lucky t shirts but it seems like they change every year and they seem lucky whether hunting or fishing.

never set a trap in an old hole especially if someone else drilled it, just plain bad mojo! Its bad Karma to set up too close to someone Else's hardside. always good luck to say go "get em Fido" to your bait as you set em down the hole!

If the dog doesn't want to go then I don't go, summer or winter... It's only happened a handful of times over the last 20 years and 3 Beagles. I'd like to think they knew or sensed something I didn't... I could just be crazy too lol.

Flags have to be facing towards me and have to be straight up and down, I hate a leaning trap makes me think it's bad luck or it won't go off if I get a fish. >:(

I have a lucky trap. More machine than man twisted and evil.
Made up of spare parts, assorted hardware. Goes up when a fish even looks at the bait. Gotta have it.

Not me I drive to each of his holes and mark them with my gps. ;D

One of the first things I was taught was to always spit on your bait. So I do, then a few words of encouragement and down the hole. Still can't tell if the fish like coffee or beer flavor better.

Not my superstition, but a buddy's, along the "lucky trap" line. He has an old lucky trap that always has to be the second one he sets. Not the first, not the last, but the second.

We use the "Flag wave" Waving our hands up and down. Never fails we all ways get a flag after. My dad also has his "lucky trap" This one old green 40 up tip up that always catches the most fish when brings it. Sometimes the only fish.

I got a lucky trap that always seems to go off not sure why lol it could be the first or last trap I put in and more often than not it goes up first I also seem to always catch trout on it
