2 cycle for auger
« on: Nov 29, 2005, 05:48 PM »
Do any of you guys recommend a certain brand of 2 cycle oil for my auger. I just bought a new Eskimo Barracuda and it likes to cut out on me, and dont' know if it is the oil i am mixing in it.  I used the ratio recommended. Maybe its just the cold, but they are built for ice fishing so they should be able to handle the cold, or should I maybe adjust the throttle some.

Baiter,  Try Tanaka oil.  Great mix quality, easy to use, dosen't foul, and has the proper preservitives in it's formula.  Locals at the Saw shop swear by it due to it's ability to mix easy.

The oil I suggest to everyone is Amsoil.  It's made in Wisconsin and it is by far the best oil out there.  I use the 2-cycle version in all my engines at 100:1 ratio and couldn't be happier.  I also use their auto oils in my cars and am super pleased.  If you want some but can't find it, let me know and I'll get ya hooked up.  Super stuff, you won't be disappointed.

Amsoil is the best oil for 2 cycle engines period. Even stored outside at -30c it pours the same as it does in summer.

Opti-2 at 100:1
Works great, no smoke and has Stabil already in the oil.

don't know if it means anything to you all, but I have a four stroke auger (from 1968) and I recently started using Mobil 1 synthetic (10W30) in the gear box and crank case.  Seems to start and pull much easier.  That stuff stays pourable to minus 50.  Expensive, but I figure it should last at least 2-3 seasons.  By the way- we hammered the rainbows on Fire Lake last Friday.  3 fish at 20" and 11 fish between 14-17".  Beautiful colors and great fighters.
