It's definitely low. I stopped on the Ventura marsh grade yesterday. The water is about 20" below the flow over boards. I talked to the DNR. He said they ran out of water last year trying to dredge a channel in the marsh so they can drain it perodically to keep the carp population down. The water must of been low enough to kill the carp. There's hundreds of dead carp frozen in the ice. It's gonna get pretty smelly when it warms up next week.
It looks like by the end of next week the big lake will be all open.

Eagles-Eagles-Eagles Everywhere.  More Eagles than you can shake a stick at!That's what  Ventura Marsh looked like about 4:30 today. Counted 51 or 52 on the ice + about 15 in 1 tree and 10 or so in another on the southside. They will sure help get rid of the dead carp. hope for a slow melt so they can eat more

Had ice across the small lake earlier in the week but I would imagine now it is wide open again.

Thinking on maybe giving it a try this Saturday,  Iaeye do you think there'll be fishable ice by then and if so where on the lake? Hoping it'll be worth the hour + drive north.

Things are looking good. I'll be posting reports later this week.  I'll get back on this site later to post the current ice conditions.  I also do live audio reports on the ice team website.  Check back later this week maybe Thursday and I let you know what the ice are looking like.

1/2 the lake is open yet in various small locations use extreme caution if you are venturing out this weekend.  They are calling for snow the next 3 days so a light blanket may cover up the bad ice.  I found good ice off of farmers beach, a little over 3 inches.  Will try and make it out tommorow morning once it builds a little more overnite.  Thinking it might be okay for quads and smaller skid houses next weekend "IF" the forecast holds true. It will be a nice gift for the new year.....  Stay safe boys......

Theres a view of how low the lake is near farmers beach.... Plenty of parking this year ;D

Didnt gain much overnite its still very marginal. 3 to 3 1/2 bring picks, spud, and rope, arctic armor suit if you have it.  Leave the power auger at home I'd say, when the ice is as thin as it is and the shallowness your dealing with it spooks the heck outta them, hand cranking aint to bad.  Or just wait till this weekend when it should be good and safe depending on snow cover.  :-\ 6-7 fow is all you need this time of year.  Stay safe!

What baits & jigs tend to work the best for an all-in-one set-up (crappie, yellows, walleye etc.)?

Hit some softer/thinner spots out off farmers today.  Gonna wait to see what old man winter throws at us.  Anywhere from 1 to 14 inches expected.  Higher amounts and we will be done for the year. :-\

i think i'll hit it friday, i decided to stay home for the day when my parents started sayin i should wear a life jacket when i set foot on that ice and i think it'll be a bit thicker after two more days below-freezing, i think you're bein a little negative bout the snow CB, a nice blanket will reflect sunlight and help us cool off even more, and we'll have a white christmas at that! now last year i found a sweet spot in about 8 feet of water, now with the lake level down a bit, should i hit the same spot or shift farther how onto the lake?
