How was the Ice and conditions wherever you fished this weekend. Ossipee lake, Winni, southern lakes?
-
I am actually wondering what the wolfeboro area is looking like my self. PM if need be.
-
I fished a pond in So. NH on saturday and after looking at this weeks weather report I would be willing to bet that that said pond will be unfishable thru the ice by weeks end..The ice on Saturday was very grainy and only 10" at the most, edges were fading fast..
-
it looks like it gets below freezing everynight in the northern areas
-
I fished a place in Western NH this past Saturday. The edges were unsafe in many spots, but once I got on I was standing on 15" of ice, with the top 2" or so of sugary, granular ice. On my way there, I was amazed to spot bobhouses still on the ice on a few backwaters and lakes, but for all I know, they were in the process of being pulled.
-
Wakefield area: fished on 18” Thursday and Friday
-
Taylor river in hampton has 9 inches in the middle and wet edges, sketchy
-
Tried fishing some of my local spots in the Nashua area.. didn’t even bother. No edges for 5-6’ and gray/ awful looking ice
-
what places, try to include names even if unfishable, will help guys plan for next weekend
-
Checked Bellamy near Dover yesterday. Edges were open but I walked out on and it seemed solid. There were no other people there and I was solo so decided not to take any chances. There was at least 12" there weekend before.
-
Plenty of ice on Alton Bay however, the ramp at F&G is going quick as the river current is opening things up.
The other ramp is getting sketchy near the bottom from all the vehicles going on and off.
-
Cut 21" on winni, between Alton and Wolfeboro area Sunday.
Ice is not good condition though. Many big open holes....scary. Took the wheeler out, and even though there's alot of ice once you get away from shore, I can tell you unless we get some cold weather, that was the last trip with that. I'll be on foot from now on. Real sketchy ride back, with the snow yesterday, made it super hard to see those holes.
All I could think of was Roccus's quote on his profile..." A man's gotta know his limitations"
All that being said, still plenty ice to get some fishing in for a couple weeks at least, just gotta be smart about it.

This makes me feel a bit better about this weekend. Taking my old man out for his firs NH ice fishing adventure and we will be on foot. Still trying to narrow down some easily accessible spots to set cusk traps and to fish for lakers and perch. I cannot have him walking a mile each way.
-
Ice looked good on some of the small ponds around Winni ..20 today..bite sucked
-
I fished Ossipee Saturday 16"+ Even the edges were fine. Took the Quad out so had to watch for old holes by the end of the day the surface ice got grainy.

Fished 20 inches of good ice BUT...I wanted to move down the lake...in fog..with. .hidden holes. .not good..turned around and fished where I've been fishin
.
No issues. .no scary holes. ..I'll finish with the weeler this week but the impending storm my do I repairable damage...

I checked out turtletown pond in Concord today, approx 10" of ice, kind of grainy, edges were good except where a snowmobile broke thru at the ramp, I was able to walk on without getting wet at all..
-
Fished Stevens Pond in Manchester today. Edges sketch. Wet feet to start the day. 12-14” where I set traps. Ice was grainy. Warm weather this week will certainly end accessibility there. If anyone wants to fish further north this weekend (Thursday, Sunday, Monday) let me know.
-
Aknightz How was the fishing at Steven's, I used to ice fish there when I was a kid, before the highway was there..

I didn’t have any luck. First time on the ice there. I fish there in the summer in my inflatable boat. Pickerel and bass is what I usually catch. I fished at half moon lake in Barnstead on Sunday and that was great I will say (catching and ice wise)
-
Hello All!
I am in the Jaffrey area and the ice on most of my regular ponds is at the very best sketchy. I would like to get some fishing in tomorrow during the day and wanted to know if anyone has an idea how far north I will have to go to get safe ice?
If anyone has been out on Pool, Contoocook or Frost in the last few days let me know. Those are my normal fishing spots, but i'm fairly new to this and I usually go out alone so the idea of going through freaks me out pretty bad...
Any help is appriciated, if I get out tomorrow I'll put up a report.
-
Please check for yourself - below updates are what I experienced - but conditions seem to be changing fast...
Thursday - 2/22 - 19 Mile Bay - 20+ inches of ice but open water near rocks and drill holes widening - launch was ok - did see vehicles (not recommended)
Saturday - 2/23 - Pleasant Lake Francistown - Edges were gone - new to this lake and didn't bother to attempt to venture out
Saturday - 2/23 - Otter Lake - Greenfield - Ramp was ok - lots of groups on the lake - ice was 10 - 12 inches where I drilled.
Monday - 2/25 - Nubanusit - Ramp getting soft - but passable on one side - 10 inches of ice but deteriorating while I was out there.
Round pond in Nashua has open water on the edges - this pond usually looses its edge quickly - I would consider it done for the season.
Be Safe...
-
I was on winnisquam this morning Belmont beach area had 6 inches of snow ice then about 10 inches of nice ice caught nothing tho
-
update- taylor river is now unfishable
-
The lake Sunapee area ponds are at about 18” as of last weekend edges were fine.
-
Checked out frost pond after work today. A little thin at the edge but only 3-4' out. After that it was at least 6" thick.
I'm going to give it a go tomorrow if I don't find a better option.
-
I fished Massabesic sunday, 4-9" top half grainy white, bottom half still clear.
Edges are getting beat, I fished right by the circle and the rock wall holds a lot of heat. One in my group got a wet foot getting out.
I have a different spot I prefer, out toward Browns Is, but I was told it's already inaccessible. It's a good walk down a trail, pulling a sled on dirt, so I didn't go look.
1 medium pickerel and 1 other flag was all we earned for standing in the snow/rain.
-
Fished Alton Bay Saturday 2/24 and Sunday 2/25. ~14" from the town docks boat ramp to about 50 yards off Sandy Point. Pulled my bobhouse off yesterday 2/27 with the 4 wheeler and measured 10-12". Lots of holes are opening up into human and even wheeler sized death traps. At this point, I would consider Alton Bay unsafe for ALL vehicles. The ice is just too unpredictable. Be safe out there!
-
Fished Canaan St Lake 2-27. 15" ice.
-

-

He fished on Feb 27th and there was 15” of ice 😀
-
Fished Moultonborough Bay near Swissvale Monday and Tuesday on roughly 20 inches of ice.
I am planning on heading back up again next week!
I was able to get a few decent fish, even jigging up a 20" pickerel.
-
Lake Sunapee: 10-15” of ice, beach at state park is still solid but rain on Friday may change that. Easy walking but definitely need creepers.
-
I have been fishing all week on a variety of small lakes and ponds in the lakes region and everyone has Atleast 18 to 20 inches of ice..edges are decent ..been running a quad
-
Fished march 1 bout 30 minutes north of Cornish, 12" ice.
-
Considering making a longish drive north to Laurel Lake in Fitzwilliam in the next couple days.
If any has seen the lake and can tell me the ice conditions that would be awesome?
Or recommend some other pond close by that has better ice please respond here, or PM if you'd rather, thanks...
-
Iced out today in the Nottingham area. Earliest I have ever seen.
-
Just punched some holes for Cusk traps on Merrymeeting, 15" still. Plenty safe on the south side near the boat launch. Some guy was out wind skiing or whatever the hell that's called & was all over the place, didn't fall through.
-
has anyone been to
Nubanusit lake in NH in the last couple days..dont wanna make the trip tomorrow if ice is no good
-
have you been to nubanusit since the 25th ?
-
Fished the lakes region again today and the ice was going fast..lost about 6 inches today I bet of white ice..still easily a foot but stinks it’s over ..boat next week I guess
-
Big Diamond Pond
26 inches today.
My son had a blast, lots of flags...mostly shorts.
Great place for the youngsters getting there first lake trout...Bring Smelt.
-
My son had a blast, lots of flags...mostly shorts.
Glad to hear you guys had a good trip and got on the trout!
-
Hey green shack is the lake ready for a kayak yet I was up there a week ago and it was fading fast
-
Yes, ice in some coves, main part of the lake is wide open.
-
18” on little lake Sunapee, edges were still good. Slow day today.
-
Call anyone tell me where I can make one last trip out next weekend? Everything in southern NH is gone. I'm thinking lakes region might be a feasible option. Maybe sunapee or newfound.
-
Warwick MA 12-14.
-
well, it's been fun. Im packing my crap up and storing it for summer. Time to get ready for stripers
-

::) Two months still first stripers. Sounds like a long period of cabin fever!
Still lots of ice here in the north country.
Dick
-
you're right, I may make some attempts for winter flounder in hampton/seabrook from the kayak, will put new deck paint and a trolling motor on the boat, get lobster gear ready, maybe make some groundfishing charter trips and by then the stripers should be here
-
Made my last trip on lake Wentworth on Thursday... after fishing every day last week.. I could see a lot of changes in the integrity of the ice.. the shore line is still solid but ice has lost about 6 inches in that weeks time... I started with over 22")... a lot of nasty holes have opened up .. especially at the south end.... it was a good long season.. one of the best for white perch an a few years...but there are enough bad spots to make me call it a season... a good run is better than a bad stand ;D.. especially if we get a little snow on top... It took 3 days to clean all my aquariums... ( 4 of them).. which include a 125 Gallon reef tank.. a 35 gallon sea horse tank ... a 100 gallon fresh water tank and a 20 gallon invertebrate tank.. all were severely neglected during the ice fishing season... I've got to get the plants started in the hot house and this storm left the yard a mess... I need to stow the gear... then get the boat ready for the salmon opener .. it'll come faster than we think...I've got eel pots to mend and eels to trap before the Stripers get here... I love ice fishing but stripers are what I do......those that keep fishing be safe.. Hope you get that monster you have been dreaming of all winter..
Roc

Any of you seacoast guys dabble in some winter flounder action? I may give it a shot

Ah so that is why you were catching all the fish the other day you are using sea horses for bait! Who carries them around here I need some.

If you ever need company once those bass move in..... ;)

I do a lot of flounder fishing in the kayak in the spring usually start in the first part of may and threw first part of June till you need to work for them
They are a blast to catch and I think they are the best tasting fish in the ocean except for red fish

Fished pleasant Lake Thursday busted through near shore
Time to leave that one alone
-
My cousin is trying to convince me to come up to winni and fish 19 mile bay or somewhere around wolfboro, we'll be on foot, anyone been out there in the last day or two and know how those areas are holding up?
-
Sitting on 18” of ice right now. Small ponds up north are doing well.
-
I'm on ten inches of ice in Madison edges are good in some spots
-
anyone else hitting up winni this weekend? I might try to give it one final go with my cousin. If the ice is crapty on winni we have access to a house on crecent if thats fishable
-
buller?
-
Thank you, Simone. lol
Still researching conditions but I'll likely try winni this weekend. I have a spot on Mousam that's great in the spring but reports on the edges are bad and it's a jackpot snow total area. I'll go farther north if I have to but I'd be fishing pretty blind with no experience past Silver. Sunapee's another option.
-
Last weekend was in 20"+ up in Lancaster and about 14" half hr south of there.
Flags up!

Still the same but 5" of snow on top! Below freezing most nights next week.

I scoped out a lake in Fitzwilliam yesterday, no dice. Ended up finding ice in MA.
-
Saturday - Martin Meadow 18" to 20"
Sunday - Mascoma 15"
This Afternoon - Canaan Street 12" -14"
A lot of snow on top at Mascoma & Canaan street and more coming...
-
16 inches on winter harbor yesterday. Edges were shot at my access point and needed waders to get on. Pre storm white perch bite was excellent. A lot of emergency vehicles over by Libby Museum towards dark. A few groups were out in this area. Not sure what happened as I was further up the bay?
-
How about a snow report from littleton area
-
If there is still over a foot of ice in the lakes region, and probably some refreezing over the next few days/nights, you could still be on the ice in April!
Just can't fish the trout/salmon waters after the 1st.
I might head back up for one more go-around in the next couple of weekends....
-
Pretty sure I will be on winni ice for closing day and fishing openwater salmon on the 1st. Just stinks the opener is also Easter Sunday!
-
Stinson lake today. 21" of ice. 4" snow on ice. slow fishing, howling winds. good to be out there
-

Stinkin Stinson on top of the mountain I do remember those winds broke a popup there once.
-
May try winni again this weekend, Ive only been once But I thought it was weird that we jigged two and got no flags, Is winni like sebago in that jigging is the way to go? Maybe the depth was off on my tip ups.
-
my two flags at winni were hit-and-spit and a smallie last weekend. did well on jawjackers and jigging. conversely in February all my hits were on tip-ups. Weird, wacky winni
-
When i was up there we did better on the jig rod vs live bait/tilts. I think it was 6 on the jig and 3 on the tilts.
-
I have 120 (and counting) reasons this year to suggest jigging is better than traps for lakers. ;D

Nice!
Yeah I was not complaining when I got 4 on the jig rod the first time chasing them with sub par rods and gear. Seems that 120-160ish lakers is about the high season norm, at least from some posts here on IS.

That’s why I’m sitting on the ice.
-
Hey guys. I was hoping to try Lake Tarleton this weekend for the first time this year. Is the ice still holding up? We will be on foot.
-
I am told edges have reformed as far south as wolfboro and better than 2 weeks ago.
-
That's good to hear. Soild edges would be nice. It would be good to leave the plank at home
-
I haven’t been out for a couple weeks but with today’s warm wind I think the end is near. Looks like spring is finally going to come by the weather forecasts in th 40s and 50s and April fast approaching. Kudos to those who have kept at it!
-
Lakes region today and had 19..couldn’t believe it..perfect walking
-

I can't believe hardly nobody is fishing. Ice and walking conditions are perfect!
-
I am going out tomorrow
-
24” of ice on first Connecticut lake
-
Making me want to make a run up there this weekend.... Maybe even a quick day trip if the wife is down. Hmmmm.
-
Moultonborough Bay had well over a foot, close to a foot and a half this weekend!
Sadly, the ice season ends on the trout / salmon managed waters on Friday.
Gladly, it DOESN'T end for the other waters provided you have safe access!
I "might" have time for another road trip after Easter, but time and weather will be the deciding factors...

The season on lakes managed for lake trout and salmon ends this Saturday March 31st.
-
So is Saturday still fishable on Winni?
-
Yes, winni and other salmon/trout waters are open for ice fishing till Saturday night. Sunday starts open water fishing
-
Plenty of ice on the small ponds and lakes. I was on 20" Saturday almost needed the extension for the Ion. One of my best days of the season. This Saturday is the last day and if your debating it its always worth it. Plenty of ice, good weather and nice walking conditions. Enjoy be safe.

I agree, it was a blue bird day out there today...plenty of ice on all 3 ponds/lakes I was fishing the last 4 days. If your on the fence for Saturday, jump off it & go!

Fished on 18” today.
