How much did we lose??
« on: Dec 23, 2007, 06:35 PM »
I am in Atlanta and was wondering how warm it got today? Did it really mess things up on the ice?

43 degrees with dense snow eating fog here in the metropolitan Millinocket area at 9:45pm.  The snow has dropped dramatically.

Been above freezing in PI since 0900.  Light rain inthe afternoon....currently 39 degrees and still raining some. (Temporarily relocated to the County for Christmas!!!)

Snow's melting fast here, but I've still got a foot or so in places.

At least in central Maine, the rain was a blessing.  We are back to glare ice and the snow pack is now manageable for getting shacks out.  Be careful everyone, lots of inconsistent ice depths due to previous snow pack.  I checked a pond yesterday, 7" one spot, 50' away, 3".  Bring the chisel and check every step gents>

As long as it gets cold again fast the rain probely helped icefishing, it didn't help snowmobiling though we had a good ride sat night but I think it will be while before we go out again, mild weather forcasted for the next week.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Moosehead Lake has lost most of its snow cover for as far as i can tell.  People reporting 10" of ice in the coves, less further out. Layers of slush.  Had some open water along the shore today. So I think the only thing we lost here was the snow cover which is making me a bit happy as I was wondering how I was going to get the ice shack out with all the snow on the lake.
