Moosehead Bait
« on: Feb 07, 2019, 05:22 PM »
Every year we go to Moosehead last week of February and always get bait at Lucy’s in in town Greenville.
I was hoping if anyone had their number that would be greatly appreciated.
Had great luck with their smelts last year, they we very hardy.

Thanks for any help

I didn't know there was a "Lucy's" in town. If it's a spelling error and you meant "Lucky Bait", (207) 695-2248.

Sorry Izzi, I didn't know the phone was out. They have irregular hours, next time I'm there I'll try to remember to check. Lucky's usually has lively bait, pretty sure they trap it themselves and supply a number of the nearby bait shops.

Couple places right on the way in Dexter as you go through, or atleast used to be, Toots and PJ's.

All good I reached out to a friend in Greenville and she said they are only open Thursday through Sunday.

There used to be a place in Rockwood but can’t remember the name or if they are even still there

Moosehead Sled Repair in Rockwood. It's the Moose River webcam location.

There's a place between Monson and Greenville it's on the left side. The guy has a bait shack in his yard. He has smelts and suckers. Prices are average and he catches all his own bait. Plus he always gives extra smelts.
Fishing is easy. Catching is the hard part.

That one's on Moosehorn Road, there's a moose rack on a post at the end of the road.  It's close to the town line between Abbot and Monson. I don't know the name of the business.

No it's on the main road headed into Greenville. It's not much before Indian hill. Maybe a couple miles tops. I get bait there every year. I boycott the bait at Indian hill.

Is there any place in Rockwood to get bait?  Heading up in the morning and staying at the Birches.

Moosehead Sled Repair in Rockwood. It's the Moose River webcam location.

After further thought I think they have a small sign that says Moosehead Bait & Tackle, but it's part of the Moosehead Sled Repair site. It's on the left heading north/west from Greenville, a short distance before the Moose River Bridge which takes you to The Birches.

For what it's worth, I've been real happy with smelt from PJ's Bait in Dexter.  Right on 23 as you're going by Lake Wassookeag.  They bag with O2, which makes a huge difference.  We got 4 doz on Thursday.  They rode in that bag in a cooler the rest of the way to Rockwood, then across the lake in a jet sled, sat all night outside without opening the bag.  Fished Friday and didn't have a dead one until afternoon.  When we packed up on Sunday, still had 15-16 left and had only lost two total.  They say they're open 24 hours, though I've only come through in the daylight.

Abbot Bait - Vance Ginn, 24X7 Moosehorn road in Abbot right before you cross the Monson Town line. He gives a Military discount and always throws a couple of extra in the bucket.

Moosehead bait and tackle had smelts all weekend and kept getting more. There is also a guy 5 miles before Indian hill on the corner of upper Shirley and that main drag who also has smelts in stock
