Ice shack out of a pop up?
« on: Sep 17, 2011, 01:27 PM »
Any one on here ever build one on top of the walls of a pop up? I bought a 14 footer last nite and was going to make a atv trailer out of it but my boy thinks it will make a nice shack! I gave 200 for it and will get my money back plus more selling the fridge/furnace and power converter! It is a tandem axle! Will strip it all out other than the dinette!
Is it ice time yet???

A friend made a shanty out of a coleman pop up, its the cats meow on the ice ! The stuff your stripping out of it would really make that into a top notch overnighter, oh well to each his own. Good luck with it !

Oh i am a "expert" at this. I have built one along the lines of what i think your saying. I will get a pic on here hopefuly lost my pics of her when the computer go all contents deleted in a virus. The Zorros Shack had tarp sides and front and back were 1/2" plywood. And it would fold in on its self. The pic is a better explanation.

Well let's see...Mine is going on it's 5th season without any issues. It is partially insulated and has a floor that folds up.18' of rope light. Can fish 3 but 2 is best. I've since added plastic runners so even this 56 year, 150# ol' man can drag it fairly easy but the quad does help...and it's mine

Tar paper shack?...yeah, I guess. Probably reminds you of home, but we'll never know...you'd be on the outside looking in. ;).................... :roflmao:

Doesn't matter if I was or wasn't drinking 'again'. At least I comprehended the question better than a few of the peeps replying!  :)  All I see in the replies are tow behind home-made runner style shanties. Granted, those shanties are fine but they don't answer the questions. The question(s) asked were about building the top of a shanty onto the existing knee-walls of a pop-up camper ON WHEELS! Something I have come very close to doing a time or three but since I drive on with my truck most often, the need for a permi has diminished greatly esp, considering I have a pop-up (Shappel DX3000) portable also for use if I go with the wheeler or snowmobile.

I thought the newest Maine siding was TyPar? My bad, I'll replace it with rolled felt for next year...   :-[

Time to "find another" (fire his a$$!) computer guru. Viruses don't delete your pictures. If you lost them it's because someone did not take the time to recover them prior to reloading your system.

I left the base walls cuz I got to keep the flip down step. I've seen tons of people that build their shacks on wheels try to step out on the ice or onto steps they had places there and go for a ride.
