Safe is the key word here... There is plenty of fishable ice. What you consider safe is the big question. I haven't seen anything thicker than 3 inches yet this year, but I have fished 3 days so far.

Go for a ride with your gear and check for yourself Mike.
Never take anybody else word for safe ice..
I fished two different ponds in the 2 days and both had plenty for an atv..

Have you given any thought to opening your store on the weekends early enough so we can get bait before hittting the ponds? Or maybe staying open in the evenig later than 4:30? Those are great hours if your a banker....

Or better yet, let us reserve bait and have a place we can pick it up before or after hours. I'm with snowfun, we are always the first on the ice every time we go out! 6am is too late. Crazy as it may seem, I walked over a mile into a pond last Saturday morning all alone in the pitch dark at 5am. To my surprise Snowfun and another buddy were already fishing and enjoying the great outdoors.

Those hours are honestly for our distributing company.  The bait business is located within the warehouse of this company.  Our plans are to open at 5 am on Sat and Sun.  We will stay open until 6 or 7 on Fridays.  If you need bait earlier than that just let us know and we will leave it out for you.  I'm not willling to pay our employees or myself to get there at 4 in the morning to sell $10.00 worth of bait.  I want to see what response we get and I will shift the hours to make it work.  The response has been positive ,o I'm hopeful and optimistic.  Our office is open Monday through Friday 8-4:30, so there is someone always there.  Any additional hours will be extra for the employees or myself.  Just let me know how I can help you out and I will try.  Thanks for the input, which is how we will learn.

That's great to hear. I think you will do well with your attitude. Maybe staying open friday and saturday night until 6 or 7pm will be the ticket. you will want to extend your hours around the local derbys and stay open as long as possiable for those couple weekends.

On a side not, when do you plan to start selling smelts?
