Just wondering what the warm up did to the ice. I have the next three days off so I might head out to the lake and see whats up.

We have had a few days of very cold temp but, had to run down to the QC and ran pass a guy's pond out on Int-80 there was open water on  the west side of his pond. Everybody is going to have to be safe and go with a friend again for a while!!

a number of spaces that stayed capped and only had some edge softness seem fine again.  anything 10 acres plus likely has open water and still does because of the wind.  last night we got a reprieve from the gusty winds so hopefully they cappedd over again.

There is a lot of open water this afternoon that didnt cap last night.  We were out last weekend and found open water so there is bound to be a lot of skim ice this weekend. I know there is some fishable ice tho too.

Do any good? I had a Musky trying to tug my transducer down the hole lol, scared the S!@# outta me. Found one nice crappie radomly out in 30ft of water, otherwise on most of the spots you can sit and reel up dink gills till your tired. I have a pond pretty close to there that will def be safe this weekend, pm if interested.

Lots of rain today. It looks like the lakes r starting to open up along the banks. I was hoping to get one more weekend. I have to work Saturday morning now but of by noon and praying the ice is still safe around the qc.

I fish north of the QC's. Starting up at Fulton. Miss backwaters. My brother and I do average. My brother made several lymph flies. Put some Preparation H on. Did well. But a guide told me about Prep H. It contains shark liver oil. I watched the perch with a camera. A world of difference in the learning curve. Used 2 lb test. Going this Saturday. Could be the last hurrah. Caught a half dozen keepers between 8-10". Put the big girls back to spawn.
I would post the pics but I do not think it is possible on this site.

Where r u fishing? I live in the qc and have not seen any ice even close to get those numbers all year. I fish a private 7 acre lake that sits down in a valley and its only had at most 8" on it.

He fishes a Mississppi back water that builds ice nicely.  I read your report BBK from the Iowa forum.  I noticed at couple ponds today that were looking horribly then i checked another one that is fairly sheltered from the car and it looked so so with some shore ice still stable just trying to put a feeler out there.  I would think the canal in Geneseo might be stable yet also that place holds ice like BBK's back water.  :o

The place I fish is shaded all day every day, makes a big difference. 11" on one side, 5-6" on the other that is in the sun. About a week ago we were fishing on 14". Its all hard clear ice too, yesterday I could see the fish below me as I was reeling them up. 13 feet of water and a good 10-11" of ice.

Supposed to be first and last ice in area so guessing it might.  Not sure if rain had any effect there like east where water is up.

everytime i'm certain we are done, mother nature hangs on to maybe give me an inkling of a chance.  i will tool around this weekendd and see if there is any ice within a close proximity of me.  not looking good but its worth a shot.

if nothing by this weekend, its all getting wrapped back up and going into storage.

Geneseo has zero to 8 inches maybe more as of yesterday.  Some of the pads out by canal flow have opened up.  Not sure how the deluge I drove back to Peoria in may have affected it.
