First Ice?
« on: Nov 18, 2016, 09:38 AM »
I see some other chapters starting threads on guessing when first ice will be....today being 64 degrees doesn't seem like the right time to start. But I'll take a shot in the dark...I am hopeful for the first time in years that "maybe" we may be able to walk on water by Christmas Eve this year...maybe I'm just being too optimistic...any guesses?

I have ice.......in my bourbon :-\

The bird bath did skim over though. Open water temp on Lake Ontario was 54 yesterday. Canandaigua was 55  a week ago when I was on it.

I struggled with putting the boat away this past Saturday.

The heavy snows you have will help lower your water temps,If this weather pattern holds you will be on ice in about 30 days

With the snow cover less radiant shore/land heat ...those SW shallow  bays will lock up if the snow stays .

Down my way safe ice is around January 1st ..although a few times it can be found on December 25...but few..but do like your thinking

I took a friend to a beaver Pond In Chenango country near Norwich NY yesterday, the pond is locked up with a 1/4 inch of skim ice if the weather cooperates it won't be long for fishible ice. :)
Lets go fishing

We've had some skim ice on small lakes here already...water temp is close, especially with the snow we had, just need the cold.
I'll go with Dec. 20th.

This is a cool graph for Lake Erie temps. It shows the High/Average/Low temps for every day of the year.
