Title: Crappies and Perch in March, Vilas County
Post by: smbrickner on Dec 26, 2016, 10:15 AM
My in laws have a place on Forest lake.  I can usually catch walleyes at night there without much trouble.  But during the first week of March I will be up there with a few friends and want to explore some other water.

Where do you guys recommend?  Big Lake?  Trout?, Looking for some action panfishing spots.  Maybe keep enough for a fish fry that night but definitely not a meat hunting group.

We are looking to get a guide for one day, but so far everyone I have called is booked.

We fished Big Lake of the Cisco Chain last March and did very well on some big Perch. I'd also recommend Palmer and LVD, but they can get pretty slush laden come the first week in march. Both were fairly bad this past week.

Try Bruce Becker. He's probably the best guide on the Cisco Chain. http://www.brucebeckerguideservice.com/

Not sure about guides but my father in law and I make trips up to forest lake for the gills. Definitely worth it if you haven't gone for gills there.

Yep, I've caught gills there and have done pretty well.  Walleyes after dark in my FIL's bay too.

Ever fished Lac Du Lune?
