ct guys welcome?

Why naturrally!  I know last year and maybe even the year before a couple of guys from Ct. came up.  Make sure to introduce yourself.  Any questions, just ask.

I was there in the afternoon, set up right on the point with a couple of guys and a boy.  Hope to see you on the 7th.

Well heavens bells my man!  Great to hear from you.  It has been a Looooong time!  Hope all is well with you and yours.  Try to make it down.  Tons to catch up on.  Stay in touch as the time grows closer and hopefully we can make the "Ron Sucks" call together :)

Great report John, thanks! With this cold, I don't see any issues for the date.

In over 40 years of fishing that place, I have never even heard of a time when it wasn't locked up the first week of Feb. I truly don't worry about that.   There are always the edges to contend with given the river fluctuations, but you learn how to mitigate that.  Hope you can make it on the 7th.

So many old names and a bunch of new folks as well!  We hope to hear from more of you soon.

We definitely had a girl from Jersey one time {waves} Hi JerseyGirl  ;)

Just to kind of put it out there and so people can think about it over the next couple of weeks, we will have the Bring and Take Raffle again this year at 11:30.  The way this works is every one who can brings something that they might have lying around that another sportsman might be able to use.  Wrong size, bought way to many, just don't use 'em any more.  That kind of thing.  Last year we had a deeeeep prize table including everything from an electric auger to a bottle of hooch.  So think about it and try to bring something fun or useful that someone else may be able to use.

Last years prize table (with our resident stake bomb maker)  :

And the "Crew" from last year:

Time to Bump this one up!  We are only a little more than a week away from the gathering and things are looking good out here.  The only large amounts we got from this "blizzard" was the hype.  Six inches of sugar snow has had NO effect on the Cove.  Not to mention that the cove is a short on off with great parking.

Every year we have caught Pike and the occasional Walleye so if these species were on your bucket list this might be your chance.  Lets hear from folks, it is coming up next weekend.

Sorry to hear that bro :-\   Aside from your company, I was looking forward to one of those fine stogies you always have on hand.

If any one needs any motivation, a seventeen pound pike was landed at the cove this past week.  It was NOT transported live to a certified scale and then released back in to the river healthy and kicking to be caught another day. ;)

I heard a rumor some guy caught a decent pike out of there recently...

Can't make it this year, already had plans for that day that I can't change. I might send something along for the raffle table, though...

Yup, a few decent pike have been reported this year.  Sorry you can't make it.  There are just so many weekends during the ice season and conflicts are inevitable.  You have been coming for years, to bad you wont be able to make it.  Keep Feb.6 free for next year!

It's on my calendar.  Will try to make it!
Hope you can make it.  Please stop by and introduce yourself.

Well, it seems we have a lot of conflicts this year with several derby's etc.  Since I have heard very few responses from folks regarding the raffle, I am going to cancel the raffle for this year.  We will reinstate it for next year.  I will ask that at 11:30 (I'll blow a whistle) every one please come in for a group photo and just so every one can meet and greet.

Looking forward to seeing every one Saturday!

Hey guys! I hope it's OK if a Rhode Island member stops by. I am located in Providence but my mother-in-law lives 5 minutes from there, in Turners Falls. It just so happens that we're going to be in town this weekend. I have never fished Barton's Cove, but I have set up in the summer on the other side (Unity Park in Turners) and fished for MONSTAH carp and smallies.

If I can sneak out for a couple hours in the morning I will come down.

What kinds of things do you guys bring for the table? How is the event set up? Should I expect to be able to set up 5 tilts?

Thanks! Hope to meet some of you guys on Saturday.

-Ben

Big area there will be plenty of ice space for your 5 tilts. Never know what you'll catch there

Getting excited now. Just went smelting in Maine last week. Couple dozen fish.

Everyone, Skikid is my amigo. Been a member for a bit, friends with Baitbucket too, didn't know that until recently.

How does propane cooking do in the cold? Thinking about some meatballs or porn 'n beans for y'all. I meant 'pork' not porn. What a slip.

Thanks in advance,

Glad you can make it!  Please come and introduce yourself.  I am a Montague native myself.  It is just a show up and fish kind of thing.  Most of the people out on the ice will be with us.  There is tons of room.  We are going to skip the raffle table this year.  It just didn't seem to be coming together.  Save it for next years Tenth anniversary ;)  Bait is available right down town at Pipipones Sport Shop (only five minutes from the cove if any one forgets/needs.  Opens at 7:00)

Thanks, Capt. Shay! The level of friendliness on this site is like night and day compared to some other fishing sites out there that I won't name.

When chatting with the owner of Pippione's I have heard that Barton's Cove is a hot spot.

Any idea of current ice thickness? The blades on my auger are a little dull...I may need to sharpen or replace before Saturday. It was a bi$%# drilling through 10 inches here in RI last weekend.

You crack me up Pilgrim.  I remember watching you pull your first fish ever through the ice and now you are off on ice fishing vacations!  I've gotten propane to work in some pretty cold temps so I think you will be ok.  Try to keep it warm and shake it real good.  Hope Skid can make it.

Ha ha ha, I aim to please sir. First fish was with the help of your fine fish finder. Thank you. I still have so much to learn. Fishing next to Stripernut is a humbling experience. ;)

Thanks for the propane advice.

Skid's is my right hand man. He'd better make it.

I would like to add a 'plus 1' if I may. My buddy 'Fishkins' is eager to learn the ropes as to how one fishes through the ice.

I would say you are looking at 12-14 inches of ice.  I have been working and haven't been over there since this last storm, I will try to get over there today so I can give a first hand account.  The main path in will be well packed by locals but I'm sure there is going to be some snow on the ice.  I was on the river last Sat. and as of then there was about six inches of snow but no slush layer at all.  Again, I'll try to get there to check first hand.  At least it isn't a very long haul from the ample parking to the ice.

Saturday:  Cloudy, with a high near 27. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%

Well, that doesn't sound like a bad forecast at all.  Wind calm to 5 mph sounds Sweeeeeet.  Lets hope the weathermen are right for a change and this prediction holds.
