We fish all month a couple of time a week and would go home with 15 to 20 legal fish. yesterday 4 of us fished in the same location and moved around three times not much showing on flashers. all had a couple of hits  and never landed a fish. all day. Its amazing how fish moved out of area.

that's A NICE FISH .I,M GLAD YOU GOT SUCH A NICE PICTURE, I have released 3- 26"to 28"  And fellows fishing with us have released close to 10 similar  to that size.  I'm surprised not more fish were caught during  the derby .think if the derby had been a week earlier many more would have been caught.  The fish seemed to have moved out into different areas we did not even see bait fish showing up on our flashers during the derby.

I also noticed all the fish seemed to have shifted areas. I marked a bunch the previous week but during the derby still had all the bait around but no togue following or in the schools

Bite was steady. Ended up with 24 lakers for the weekend between 2 of us. Kept 11 and released the rest that were “too big”

We too were fishing the deep bait schools over last 2-3 weeks that’s where we have been catching the most fish , couple of my friends have fished allot this year with great results 10-20 fish days but nothing over only a few in the 28 30 inches range , which are really nice fish , but usually it takes a over 33 inch fish to place in the derby

The Friday before derby the wife and I tried much differant water to no result but saw bigger fish on sonar  but couldn’t get them to chase and bite ,  then at end of day went back and fished the bait schools in deep water and bite was on
But all small or slot fish , no big ones or even close to upper slot .
So decided to do something I have never done before , changed tactics knowing we wouldn’t catch many fish but if we did they would or should be on the bigger side of slot , it’s amazing the info and tactics that you can get off you tube , things I really didn’t know about big laker fishing ,
Seemed to work for us this year,  but probably just luck ! 😜

Sorry, I am just bitter about that law... Don't agree with it... Not so easy to do that when alive as it is when it is dead.
