i've heard lots of people claim morning or late afternoon/evening. those can be good times, i don't think it really matters, as long as they're biting and in the area.

From dawn to dusk, pike are Diurnal meaning they are most active during daylight hours.

Every single one of my pike over 40 inches have come after 1 pm.  I've caught lots of pike weighing in the mid-high teens in the morning but for the real big gals, it's afternoon hands down for me.

Fish bluegill during the day, with tip-ups set for pike, as dusk approaches tip-ups for walleye, jigg for crappie.  The ultimate day !!!!

Northerns seem to bite better during the day, since they rely so heavily on sight

i rely on thier amazing sense of smell!
under 2 feet of snow covered ice, on an overcast day in 15' to 18' of water i doubt sight has much to do with them finding my bait on the bottom!

In connecticut, especially on the river systems, the bite is best from sunrise to 10 am, there is usually a lull in the action until 2 or so then the bite picks up till sundown.

no nothing different, but i have found that nights either side of and thru a full moon can be real good.
caught both of those fish minutes apart and pulled them out of the same hole! i pulled in the first fish and relized that my line from a  40' away was across the other line so i started pulling it in and realized there was another fish attached and landed it through the same hole! we laughed are azz's off and couldn't believe what just happened. the time was 11.30pm and the full moon was overhead.

I have been fishing with a HT tip-up for two yrs I am embarassed to say that I have yet to catch anything on it. What rigs should I be using? I currently have a quick strike and use dead bait. How deep should I set it? Where should I set it? Nice rack deadbait!

For pike I use a 10lb test mono leader with a treble. this is attached to the dacron tip-up line.  I usually set my bait halfway up the column of water or higher.

That must be it because I have never used a mono leader or a leader of any kind except for the steel leader! I take it the cold water dont effect mono? Could I use a 20 #?

I would suggest terminator titanium leader in 30# test - less likely to get bit off by the toothy critters - the titanium leader is very thin for it's weight and very flexible.

I always fish for pike during the day.. Early in the morning till afternoon. Like to fish for the walleyes at night. Me and my friends have tried for pike at night but, we either get skunked or catch a few walleye, any tips deadbait dave?
