The person with a a derby ticket that enters the biggest tagged rainbow trout of course.  ;)

I also am anxious to know. Wish they did more of story to it. NE sportsman used to tour the lake and write an article about it. I miss those.

Back to the question of who one? Hope it was an iceshanty member!!!!!!!!!!  ;D

3.06 took the derby this year.  the top 2 untagged bows are scetchy to me.  they were like 6.8 and5.7 or somethin like that.  they were so stuffed with eggs it wasnt even funny.  the second the guy hung it on the board it pissed out about a pound of watery eggs. Both fish were caught by the same family.  they both had weird orange lines on them and I know there was some controversy accepting them but they were accepted.  cant wait to get the full story on these.  notice the deflated belly's in the pics.  those are not from a public nh pond or lake!

i think they said that those two fish might have been breeders that were dumped somewhere by a hatchery.

They don't look like any stocked nh rainbows to me, seems like they would have milked them first if they were breeders from this last stock? But I am jealous anyways.

I dont think that the NH strain of Bows have that color though, but look at the belly they must have injected the things with a hole container of eggs, both caught by the same family? Polygraph anyone? I mean come on does that belly really look natural? Look at the skin it on its belly, looks like it has been streched unnaturally. I dont like to point fingers but it looks like this person bought these fish from a hatchery and stuffed them full of eggs. Anyone else think the same?

Maybe someone has some scientific reason for the orange color to the fish. Never seen one like that before.

Were they full of orange salmon eggs , red or pink?, LOL. Never saw a bow with those colors.  (maybe farm fish)
Injecting with eggs, good idea. That could add some weight, insert tube pour in eggs push into belly.

Yeah, It would be nice to find out about this one ??? I really don't think any fish would gorge themselves on that much of anything to make their stomachs stretch so un-naturally? Kind of odd both were the same family/condition?

From what I could find searching google, these would most likely be farm raised and fed a diet to enhance the flavor and color of the meat and therefore the skin color. no mention of any such farm in NH. Something fishie going on here.

Many people have private ponds. I'd think they were stocked into their pond and fished out of that pond for the derby. I guess as long as the pond is in NH it's legal.
I had guy buy bait off me every year so he and his friends could fish his stocked trout pond on his property in East Kingston. He said he had some monsters in there. Perhaps this or some place similiar is where these fish came from. Wont win them top prize but will get them some good cash, sorry I didn't think of something like that. Fatten them up all year and catch them for the derby! Smart very smart.

The eggs were orange.  and fish and game didnt stock breeder rainbows.  both of those fish were registered at the same time and when they came to the board (in the plastic cantainer used to register the fish which they usualy dont do.  they usualy just cary the fish) the stomaches were jiggling like they were full of water.  and the second they were picked up and place on the board they spilled everything and the stomaches deflated.  Ive never seen a bow voluntarily release eggs like that unless squeezed.  and usualy the liquid that comes out with them is slimmy.  this liquid was pure water looking liquid.  I dont buy it one bit.

I agree.  I overheard the derby officials say  "they had to accept it, there was nothing in the rules against it" as they were putting it up on the board.  If thats so I gaurentee you will see a new rule in the books next year for the derby.  Because thats just plain dumb.  I know someone who has a private small pond that I could have taken all top 10 spots if I wanted to.  But some of us have more respect than others I guess.

I thought that it had to be a public body of water in NH?

I know a guy that has a private pond up north in Errol. He has some rainbows pushing 10+ pounds in there. They are HUGE!. He will not let anyone fish it as he reserves it for a kids derby once a year. Wish I was a kid again when I visit him.  ::)

My dad had a 6 pound rainbow stuffed a long time ago from the 70s. It had an orange stripe on it. As I fished with my father and caught many bows I used to compare the ones I caught to his and ask him why his was so different. He said that it was painted to match what the fish looked like when he had it mounted.  :-\

I also think those were farm fish. VERY strange that two were caught by the same family. Maybe a private pond got fished without the owners permission.  :o

Nice! Maybe we can go fish it next weekend? Is it a 6 trap lake? I'll bring my kids and I can then get 18 in there. 24 if the wife decides to join.  ;D

Besides the funny fish on the board, how was the weigh-in and other events. We stopped by yesterday afternoon but the parking was hard to find and I had all of my gear in the back of my open pickup bed. Looked busy.

Fished a local pond today and caught about a 3 digit number worth of panfish jigging.

any of you guys remember this bow my ex g/f's daughter took out of Silver?  I have never seen, before or since, a NH bow with these colors.  I do have to agree that the fish on the board look strange.

I have seen trout with very vibrant color like that before. It was only once. And it was out of Tower Hill in Candia. It was super colorful. It didn't have that coloration on the gills like the one in the picture, but the colors were very vibrant.

I wonder if the trout at the "Castle in the Clouds" are doing. Are the "ponds" at the Powder Mill Hatchery fair game?

Here's a 4 pound 22 incher that I caught out of a NH lake.  The colors are absolutely brilliant.  I believe this rainbow was in the lake at least 5 years.  The water body is gin clear.  I think the colors are typical of a very clean lake.  However, the bows boarded at the derby were somewhat suspect.  I've never seen that orangy tint on a rainbow before.  Just my two cents.

Ive never seen a rainbow with those colors in nh either except when I worked in a fish market with the farm raised rainbows we'd get in, I have caught bows with eggs coming out and slack stomachs heres a pic of one best I could find, can kinda see the stomach and theres eggs in the cooler if you look closely
