Ventured down to Petrie today to check on the ice... Crappie Bay is iced over but unfortunately under a blanket of fresh snow. The shoreline is still a bit slushy as well.
Was starting to get excited when I heard on the radio that it's going back up to 9c next week... we can kiss this ice goodbye for now! Here's a pic anyway...

Bucketmouth,

I have just one goal this year...to be icefishing before Xmas again! What's the earliest you've ever been out ice fishing in the Ottawa area that you can recall? I'm really psyched up for another long season...looking at all the lake maps I've acquired this year and dreaming about all the possibilities.

I have been on ice for ice fishing on the 12 december,,,,for sher,,,,,on a cople off year,,,and always around that date on the ottawa river,,,,,,and the nation river,,to

mabe did try before that ,,,but recal the date,,,,

Thanks Joco...I've got my fingers crossed for an early season this year, but the next 10-day forecast looks like it's against my wishes. I look forward to meeting you this year. Iceman says you know your way around the Quebec lakes and rivers pretty well.

earliest I've been on that bay is Dec 10th, about 10-12 years ago... 2" hard black ice, at night with a buddy about 20 feet away, only a lantern in between us on the ice... jigging up crappies all night long... ah, to be young and stupid again...

I have been a praying and a praying and our ponds are froze and some of the back lakes have cover but now the weather man tells me its going to go up again by monday and rain .

Bucketmouth & Joco,

Well if we're not going to have early ice this year let's just hope the winter is cold, stable, and not a lot of snow to trudge or drive through. Again, my hopes are to be drilling holes before Xmas again this year. Perhaps we'll even see some campaigners on the ice this year during election time

I can't wait to do some more exploring this year after I cut my teeth on my first Ottawa winter last year. Thanks again for helping me along during my first winter here! Three plus months of icefishing is absolutely awsome!

What a hoot Bucket! How would you like that job?

Can't you just see Martin or Harper out there mixing it up with the ice crowd? Harper did the BBQ circuit this summer...do you think he'd be willing to canvass this crowd?
