lower bolton

my family and i and my friend and his family went out to lower Bolton pond on sunday. the fishing stunk, the wind stunk, but feeling of beaning out with good friends and family was awesome. the food was good and so was the time on the hard water.
it was my wife's and daughters first time on the hard water to fish, they both told me they had a really good time. my wife would've like to have caught a couple of fish. but she knows that's why they call it fishing and not catching.
i didn't know why or how but it looked like they drop the pond several more feet in water level. can someone tell me why they do that. the ice was cracking loudly all day.
