Wehrspann ice update
« on: Dec 20, 2008, 06:37 PM »
Went to Wehrspann on thursday the 18th. ice was 5-6 inches. Caught 2 blue cats around 1 - 1.5 lbs and 1 smaller crappie. Missed a really nice crappie at the hole.

Me and my buddy just got home from there.  We were in a green shack by the boat ramps.  (TOO CHICKEN TO GO ACROSS)  We were on 6-8 inches of ice over ten feet of water and caught about 40 gillies.  (2:00-6:00)  We only kept four in the 8-10 inch range, most were dinks.  Cold and Windy!!!!   Big Buddy heater ran the whole time.  Were you over by the gazebo???

I think I will take one of my kids to Wehrspann on Christmas Eve morning. I will probably fish the silt pond above HWY 370 if anyone is interested in joining us. Should be there before 9AM and leave in the afternoon depending on how long my 8 year old lasts. He says he's ready for the trips to Kansas and South Dakota but I want to see if he'll last a while on a lake close to home before I venture to far from home.

Crappie, Bluegills and Bass. There is a channel that runs along the interstate side through some trees that is about 10-20 feet.

I will try to get out there.  I work until 3:00 am, so I probably wont be there at 9:00.  I still have to check with mama.  (no grief, it IS christmas eve.)

Sounds good, we'll be in a fish trap Yukon. See you out there.

Fished the silt pond near HWY 370 Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Caught tons of Bluegills with about a dozen keepers. Also caught a few Bass and some very small Crappies. Had a great time! The ice is about 8 inches thick. I saw 2 other people out there this morning but I don't know how they did.

Sorry I couldn't get out there, I had christmas duties, but earned some brownie points.  Got permission to get my Vex fl-20 ultra, and with the help of some gift cards, will have it in two days.  I am so glad you had a good trip.  Nobody I've talked to has gotten into crappies out there yet.  i would love to get out there and meet some of you guys, I am back in town on the fifth of Jan.  Maybe we can try again then.

Are you talking about the main lake or the pond above HWY 370? Saw lots of people out there today.

Was going to take my mother to the silt pond off of 370 this afternoon, she really wants to try ice fishing.  Is that little pond worth a shot, and can we catch enough fish to keep her interested?  Also if anyone good give me a good idea of where to start on that pond, that would be awesome. I know its kind of a lot to ask, but I just want to get mom on some fish. Thanks guys!

The silt pond is connected to wehrspann. It is off the Gretna exit HWY 370. There is a big parking lot there that they use as a Christmas tree dump area. They built it a few years ago to trap the sediment before it goes into the main lake. It has bluegill, crappie and bass in it.
