Recent chilly nights have built fishable ice on some lakes and ponds. Although large sections of the Main lake on Merritt are staying open, the back sections of Boardman Creek were reported to have 4-5 inches of clear ice. One party reported steady action on crappies.
The Valentine Refuge lakes were reported to have 4-6 inches of ice on the east ends with some perch and bluegills being caught. As always with early ice, caution and a spud bar are recomended.
