I can hear the roar of 10,000 engines screaming as so many ice shanty members drop everything to hit the ice here in Nebraska. How disappointed they will be when they only find it on our windshields.

We've had a couple of frosts, but not enough to kill the ragweed.

Would not be surprised to have fishable ice by mid Nov on some Sandhill lakes. Lack of moisture = fewer springs flowing, accompanied with less water to cool down will speed up the process considerably if air temps cooperate.

Hi Dan,

I haven't been to the V Refuge lakes since ice off. My sons fished up there in June and said they were a foot low at that time.

Looking forward to seeing ya and hoping some moisture finds your house as well.

The Refuge lakes were down 18" to 20" the last of July, that was judging from the water line on the rushes. We tried to do some top water fishing but the lakes were mostly covered with thick vegetation that would even drag back with weedless lures. In August Merritt was lower than I have ever seen it but has started to come back now, hopefully it will be back to full stage by Christmas with the wonderfull Sandhill springs to feed it.

We was at the refuge lakes yesterday, Still down about 2 1/2 to 3 feet. We didn't fish. It seems as though the lakes at the boat ramps have no bottom

. Merritt is down about 10 feet. water temp 64ish. Come on cooler weather!!!!

Had our first snow of the season yesterday. Big flakes, ground was white until 11 am. Could use more moisture of any kind.

I'm thinking about taking up a collection from the Pennsylvania guys to buy a truck of liquid nitrogen to freeze a lake so we get ice.
