Lindy Darter Vs. Chubby Darter
« on: Nov 17, 2010, 01:49 AM »
Which do you guys like better? Which has a better action? The chubby has a good wobble but doesn't swim in much of a circle.

It's hard to explain for me, but I have used both and when i pull up on the chubby darter, i get much more resistance then when I do a similar jigging motion with the lindy.

The Chubby seems to give off more vibration, and the Lindy seems tighter.

More of a tail wiggle.  The action is definitely different, which is good except now you need both kinds, in all the colors.

Chubby is faster and more eratic, more feedback to the rod tip.  It will swim in circles, but does it better if you've got a swivel tie a few feet above the lure like for airplain jigs.  Chubby is also great for pounding the bottom.

Lindy is slower and more straight swimmer.  Lindy will change direction on you in it's swim circle on occasion.

Just practice your jigging in a tank or something.

Thak goodness you said that. I thought the over stock of darters in my box was due to my compulsive buying of ice gear. i am so relieved to know that i did indeed need them both, in all colors..   8)

I have to correct my previous description of Lindy Darter swimming.  One of my Lindy Darter likes to swim on it's side.  After a super real close inspection, I can see a very slight off symetry.  Maybe in the internal rattle chamber is slightly off as well making it off balance.  I guess that sort of comes with the territory of it.

OK, so these lures are apparently a hit with you guys. Are you using them for perch too???
I like to sit around on the ice doing nothing because my wife won't let me do it at home.

just caught a perch that nailed the smallest size in the rainbow smelt color that i swear the darter was bigger than the perch...not even sure how it fit the treble in its mouth

Caught a 10 1/8" gill on a #3 chubby darter this week. Have caught 15" crappies on them also. In my experience big fish like them.

I recently bought both.  The Lindy and its hooks make me sad, lol.  The hooks are pathetic, end of story.

I cant speak as to how they fish yet but the Salmo is going on first and if they work, then the Lindy will go into a different box full of lures I never use.

I just started using the lindy this year.  I've had great luck with it on walleye.  Fishing some off color water with the dark red/glow.  Not sure what they called it.  Just ordered my first from salmo.  I'll be trying it out soon.
You can lead a man to water but you can't make him catch fish.
