Ice conditions are good on small lakes.  A little snow on top with no slush.  We were out on Christmas Day.  5-6" of ice and at least 4-5" of good ice in the places we fished.  Most of the ice came in November.  Remember everyone to check the ice with a spud as many lakes in Iron County have springs.

inland lakes have been rough because of early snow and melt offs. I personally gave up on inland lake fishing end of Jan. The big lake bays on both superior and michigan have good conditions though.

I believe Teggs answered your question, after that, get a spud and find out.

graygills, bring your auger extension. we have had tons of early snow and some melts already. snow is packed in layers on the ice and is very thick anf soft. ice at my place in republic is too thick for my auger and you need snow shoes to travel around. like i said your best bet is to hit big lake bays this time of year. most inland lake public launches did not get plowed this season because of extremely early snowfalls.

Killed the fish.... three days of fishing... limits.... perfect walking...no auger extension...20 inches of ice....get up here and get some!

We went out on Saturday and experienced the same conditions as graygills.  Lots of bluegill.  Easy walking, no slush, approx 20" of ice.  Great fishing for NE wind
