I wanted to offer my condolences to a member of the Newfound Circus who I learned this morning has passed away. He was known as "Laker Taker" and although I only met him once very briefly at the gathering a couple years ago it was certainly news I wasn't expecting to read in this mornings paper.
Thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.

Wow. Sad news. I met him a few times at Newfound as well.

sad news. condolences from all the way up in saskatchewan.
-
Oh noooo. I randomly checked shanty this morning. I hadn't heard the news. He was a great guy that was always willing to help others. A lot of good memories busting on each other over the radio, in a good way. A great guy that I will sorely miss.
-
Terrible news for sure, my heart go out to his family and friends. These times are hard enough right now.
-
I had seen a few of Jiggin’s tribute videos about Laker Taker and knew something was wrong. Asked a friend who is more in touch with the Circus “crew” and he told me he heard LT had been diagnosed with cancer.
I was shocked to say the least...he, Jiggin and Tippin were the nucleus of the Newfound Circus, in my opinion, and were like the 3 amigos of Newfound.
My heart and thoughts go out to them and their families. So sad to hear of someone taken so young. My condolences.
-
My condolence to all his family and friends. I met him at the gatherings and a few of the last hurrahs at Newfound. He was and still is an awesome laker ice fisherman. God bless.
-
So sorry to hear.R.I.P LT.

Thank you everyone for the kind words towards Laker Taker. Yes it is a big blow to the Circus and to all his friends. One of the founding members of the Newfound Circus. It'll be a bit more quiet on the radio without his sarcastic fun loving humor.
To think, We were just ice fishing literally weeks ago and then got hit with the news. Diagnosed with stage 4 cancer with nothing they could do. No time, with only weeks, a month or so, best case. It was shocking and sudden.
Laker Taker fought the good fight knowing his time was very limited, kept his priorities, pride and sense of humor throughout and died peacefully with his family surrounding him. Just 2 weeks prior, his father passed (non-covid related) and unfortunately they didn't get to see each other due to his own quickly deteriorating condition. He's with his father and his wife now, no pain or suffering.
I've been busy making Youtube videos with and for him over the past several weeks up till his passing. He's suggested songs and approved his videos for public viewing with the exception of the last 2 (part 5 & 6) however i am having his family approve them for me first before I publish them. They're made for him, his family, his friends and for those who didn't get the oppurtunity to meet or get to know him.
I know his family is reading this thread so all the condolences and best wishes are very heart felt albeit eye opening for them to see that he has reached those near and far.
He'd be happy too.
Yes, definitely rest in Peace Laker Taker. Till we meet again.
Jiggin.

I do not visit this site as often as it use too , but came over and was glad to see this thread! Laker taker was simply that, a laker taker ...He , and also jiggin taught me most of what I know about ice fishing...it was more than just sticking a bobhouse on the ice and hoping a fish comes by......it was safety, early ice fishing, checking ice with your chisel jigging, and , keeping the fish interested on camera, trapping for suckers, bobhouse tending, and I could go on !
Once I learned all these things from the “professor “, I thought I could challenge him.....and then he thought me the most hard lesson of all...RESPECT......we had some great moments, but had some competitive moments, and looking back I respect all of them ! I owe all my ice fishing knowledge to him and jigg8n, thank you for taking me under your wing, and let’s keep on fishing together....it seems like such a short time, but man we had so many laughs and good times !
The circus is going to have a big void....it certainly will be different, but it will continue on...
.R.I.P. laker taker ....miss you brother
