VERNON, N.J. — An ice fisherman fell through the ice and drowned in a small lake Sunday, Vernon Township police said.
Police said the family of Luther Stahl Jr., 49, of Franklin, called them Sunday evening after Stahl didn’t return home and didn’t answer his cell phone. They told police the location of a lake in the Hamburg Mountain Wildlife Preservation Area that Stahl frequented.
When rescue workers arrived, they determined that Stahl, who was fishing alone, had drowned. His body was recovered from a hole in the ice about 25 yards from the shore.

My condolences to the family and friends, we lost a brother of the frigid sport.
At this time of the year the basics are absolutely required. Do not fish alone, have the safety gear, all of it as it gets late.

man that is too bad and a very scary thought. Prayers for Mr Stahl's family from Western New York.

That's terrible news! Obeying safety rules is important.

No ice pics or rope but the most imortant thing is don't fish alone. This is a dangerous sport if you are not careful and repect Mother Nature.
I hate these stories!
