New to the site and ice fishing trying to get lake reports thanks. I fished Rose Valley on the 7th the ice was 9 inches and the bites were few far and in-between  managed a few dandy perch and a nice bass All on tip ups.

Welcome, you will catch more perch (pan fish) jigging with a short rod and small jigs (1/32 to 1/8 oz) then you will on tip-ups.  Perch prefer bait to be moving whether it be a minnow, or grub (mousse, spikes or wax worms).

Best advice I can give you is ice picks , spud bar and bring a friend so he can help if you have trouble and cell phone it’s a great sport been doing it all my life and always stay on top. A/P

Pete has some good points, get some sort of ice cleat, the cheap ones work fine until you decide you like the ice because you really don't to fall, it hurts. A spud bar is also a good idea to check the ice. I normally drill a hole close to shore to check ice thickness. Just use common sense and always check the ice before you go on it.
