Jerry my plan is to hit the Gaps on 26th and 27th.  Word is both are just freezing up over the last few days.  Ill send you a PM on conditions.  Should be fishable by the time you roll in.

Thanks guys .Keep me posted about the ice conditions .Here in SE  Wisconsin the  lakes just froze over few days ago , maybe 2-3" by now .Any special regulations that I need to be aware of ? Have a regulation book downloaded on my phone and I will be reading it on our way there but anything special ? I'm not planning to keep any fish but what are the baits you guys are using ? Have some spoons ,jigging raps, tubes etc .Anything else  ?Can you use spawn sucks?

If you just want to catch trout and as many small perch as you'd ever want, I'd suggest Harvey instead of Rifle.  You'll have trouble keeping them off your line, and it's fun for the kiddos.

Gotcha, makes sense --- you can have all the freakin slimers you want, lol!   ;)  I've caught my lifetime fill.   ;D  Prolly have a better chance of nice trout in Rifle, for sure.

Wish we had your "problems" from your neck of the woods.  Enough perch, crappie, bass, walleye to actually WANT to catch trout.    :roflmao:

Just to clarify what Kienkhang means about live bait:  no live minnows allowed, but waxies/spikes are ok (it's not an artificials only lake).  And no limits on take for smallies and pike.  Have a blast!

Rifle has fishable ice.

- Guy who lives up here.

If you want your kids to catch a lot of fish Rifle probably isn't the best bet.

If you want to catch trout. Hit the Colorado or Roaring Fork Rivers. They're loaded with trout.

Thanks  for the info Vex-Um .Should I bring my fly rods than .Ice is ice but if there is any chance that we could catch more fish in open water than I don't have a problem with that .Just need some action that's all . ;)

Fly rod or conventional gear work great.

Hell, you might as well bring open water and ice gear! Do both!

Saw a hut out on Gypsum Ponds this week.  Usually some trout fishing there.  Sweetwater Lake is also on the east side of GWS.  Sylvan lake is closed.
