Minnow bucket
« on: Feb 02, 2013, 08:29 AM »
In the market for a new minnow bucket. Looking for something that has more than a couple of year shelf life. I've always used the plastic one with foam insulation. The cold weather is hard on the foam every couple if years I'm buying a new one.

Use a small hardside cooler or a 2 qt insulate jug.

Never can go wrong with the small coolers or insulated drinking coolers.  Although a plain old 5gal bucket  has don me just fine for some 20yrs.      See if you can find one of the old metal minnow pails those ate nice but don't hold a lot of bait
Checkin traps and making sure there's FRESHBAIT!!!

frabill aerated insulated bucket with a 5 gal pail to keep it in until fishing time. used it for 5 seasons on ice and more on soft water. no complaints here. no sign of it failing either i keep a white hand towel over it in summer to reduce heat and uv rays to the plastics.

Dude, I LAUNCHED my jug off my rack last week crossing a crack at about 30 MPH  I saw it exit the vehicle in my rear view mirror.  :o  My buddy was behind me and stopped and grabbed it.  No harm no foul.

You cant do that with a bucket.

I also am a fan.  I prefer a pair of jugs, always good to have a backup.

I have used a hard sided cooler, the one made for a tall six-pack of Budweiser with the lift off lid.....have used it for 30 years and it is almost indestructible!  PRICELESS!

Two jugs are always better than one!

That thing looks nice.  I love the plug on the  aerator hole. thats missing on the Frabil as is that strap....but it has the strap loops.  the Engel is much nicer looking than the Frabil.

water jugs of a 5 gal bucket worked for year i know the purpose of foam is to insulate in the summer and winter but was not meant to have water freeze in it. that why the jugs and the plain un-insolated bucket works great. any ways i just picked one of these up tell me what you think of it see link below. i do use a foam insolated bucket in the summer throw ice chips in it every once in a wile to keep minnows cool. but in the winter i use a  non isolated five gallon easiest to get the frozoen block out of it..

I try and never let them freeze and the styrofoam still cracks after a year or two.  That bubbler looks awesome I thought about getting a fish tank just to keep leftover minnows in but u need a receipt now. Anyone know how long the receipt is good for???  Here is a link to the minnow cooler I ordered http://www.cabelas.com/coolers-engel-12-volt-ac-dc-freezers.shtml

it will say on the receipt weather it is certified or not.
3 day for un-certified live bait.
14 days for certified live bait.
and 6 months for frozen dead bait.
