11-Mile Report (Jan 28)
« on: Jan 28, 2018, 09:59 PM »
Hit the Mile at dawn between Suckers and Cross Creek.  First two hours were slow with no bites in close to the cliff, but with a balmy 19 degrees and very little wind, it was a nice outing.  Kept seeing some hand-over-hand fishing a few hundred yards north and figured some guys were into pike with tip-ups -- but there's a certain flop that is indicative to trout.  Moved out 200 yards and nailed two between 9:15 and 10:30 with one missed bite.  The guys out three hundred yards were cleaning up, and reportedly had a dozen iced by the time they left after noon.  Moved out to their location in the midst of a light gale that fired up around 11 and lasted until dark.  We managed one more during a lull.  16, 18, and 20 inch cuttbows with minimal amount of insect larvae in their gut.  Got one on a 2-1/2" white jig, the other two were on black/white 1/32 oz teardrops with a small orange Gulp trailer -- deadsticking a couple feet off of a 12' bottom.  The other fish were had on garlic chartreuse/orange powerbait, judging by the remnants around all of the holes.  Bottom line, fishing was decent when we found them actively feeding and the wind wasn't blowing.  Couldn't have done it without the help of Tim and Kyle -- good conversation and nice sharing of thoughts.

Tight lines,

Jeff
