Disappearing ice at the mile.
« on: Dec 16, 2016, 04:21 PM »
This morning it was 51 degrees warmer then it was last Friday morning. That coupled with the wind has not helped the lid. Cross creek was fine in the area I fished. The top inch of ice was soft but still had 5" of good, clear ice under it. Went by Howbert point and it was open from the end of the point out about 50 yards. With the cold weather tonight, it may refreeze and snow on it. If you go this weekend use your spud bar.

Yea I just had guys come back from the mile inlet area is ok but LOTS of open water from Hobert and north boat ramp towards the dam. With this cold weather IF the wind dies down tonight it may put skim back on but with snow on top you will find thin ice use EXTREME CAUTION and spud bar your way out if you go .

When I parked at Sucker Cove last Friday the temp was 31F@ 830PM.   I can't imagine it was 82F today! ;D

The truck said -17* @ 6 am last Friday and said 34* this morning. Not sure how accurate it is but the difference was very noticeable.

No wind, probably because it was last Thursday. Getting old sucks. Anyway some of ice is going to be pretty crappy tomorrow at the mile...

Damn. I headed up in the am. I hope i can get far enough to get to my spot. Anbody been out or seen anybody on ice in the cove at coyote ridge. Its shallow and not a far treck out to fish it from shore. So i was thinking it might be worth trying.

Wow.  Crazy.  That sucks.  I suspect it'll be fine again after this cold snap.
