North Park Pigs
« on: Oct 24, 2013, 07:53 AM »
Loved fishing N. Delaney and John last year.  They are becoming my favorite destinations.  Can't wait to get back on the hard water there.  Got my little grandson onto some nice 15"ers at John at the end of the season when they came down from Canada for Easter.

We went up to John a few times this summer, and caught a number of the thick solid Bows with spinners while drifting in a little boat.  What is impressive is that the 15" of last winter are now thick and solid 17" and more. They dragged our little boat around.

Sawtooth,
I went to N. Delaney last month and it was a blast!  But how do you fish it thru the ice without bait?  Is it really tough?  I loved catching the browns there, and would like to try it thru the ice this winter.  It is about 4 hours from Salida, so i would have to spend a few days trying those lakes, really beautiful country.

I'm far from an expert on N. Delaney, but have caught some really nice ones anyway.  I've seen some others jigging heavy flies up along the edge of the weeds on the south end in really shallow water.  My best catches have been farther out (10-12') from the south boat ramp on gold Kastmasters.  It is a far slower day there than at John, but almost all the hits are bigger fish.  Sometimes I'm the only one on the whole lake.

From Salida, 11-mile is a much better target than north park.  Lots more action and bigger fish. And you can use bait if you wish-

OK, I'll bite, caught in N. park on a "fly". Metal and plastic works too.

Skifisher,
I'd love to go.  I just about always go on Tuesday or sometimes, Wednesdays. Antero is the usual location for me and the really O.G.s I go with.  I am in Texas this week and next, hopefully icing it soon.

Nothing beats a shrimpo or ratso on the delaneys. Legal as long as its 1.5"

I don't use either at the delaneys but I wasn't aware that shrimpos or ratsos are scented.  What kind of scent do they have?

They aren't scented so they might not have to be at that size. Bass pro shops salty squirmin squirt tubes are legal as long as 1.5" or better. Don't overlook a #3 or #5 jigging rap either on 6# or 8# fluoro.

They don't have to be over 1.5" if not scented.  I use medium dark tubes off the bottom and lindy micro slick jigs with trimmed down curly tail grubs.  Kills 'em.
