Its on the north slope @ 12000'. Lows in the 20s now, highs in the 20's after the 10th. Trying to catch it before the pass closes.

Its a deep lake. Might take longer.  I have iced Square tops on the other side in early Nov. and they had 8" of ice.

I might try to ice fish somewhere on 10/27.  If I can't get to the area I hit last year, I might be interested in something else.  I live in Longmont.  My early area should be good but I'm not sure the roads will be open.

Let me know as it get's closer if you want company.

I was hoping to get out the first weekend in November to a hike in lake for some ice fishing but now I think I'll be in Dallas that weekend so the 9th and 10th - I will definitely be heading out somewhere!

Too bad Square Tops are fished out otherwise they would be a good November destination.

I might be checking a spot tomorrow.  I hit this spot a week from now last year, 4-6" of good solid ice.  We'll see.

Provide the updates guys! Not the lake names, but I would love to hear that some high mountain lakes are capped up! I'm hoping to head west and hit a lake next Saturday or Sunday!

How about interested Colorado shanty members all get together for an early season, high country trip?

I can do next Sunday.  Saturday maybe.  I have a spot to check that I iced this early last year, and another above it that I've never been to but shouldn't be too bad to get to.  Might need snow shoes.  Leave from Longmont/Boulder area in the morning.

I meant this coming weekend.  I fly in late from a board meeting on Friday night, so Saturday would be tough, but I'll probably check out a spot Sunday.  Wife's out of town too, so free pass!

Boom, there ya go! Well I would probably be down for a get together on Sunday if people wanted to meet somewhere! I have a stock 4 wheel drive Grand Cherokee if that helps the drive/hike in. I was going to check out a place about 2 hours west of Denver but I think I will be doing that alone and I'd hate to drive that way and not have it be fishable. So if a group wants to check someone out that'd be fun. I'd bring my camera, record the outing, and edit up a video to put on the site (keeping the name of the lake secret obvioulsy).

Sounds like fun, guys -- sorry I won't be able to make it this weekend!  I hope to get out there the following weekend and do some scouting for early ice.
And remember, be careful on the early ice!

So we fished it 11/2 on 6+" of ice. Caught the skunk. Only marked one fish out of 7 holes. If you hike in, take snowshoes. Tire chains might help get you closer to the trail head.

Nice you iced it. 12000 ft lakes are a super cool experience on ice.  I have found those high lake cuttys are very tough in winter.  High brookies are easy, cuttys not so much-

Thanks! It was rad. That lake has one of a hole in it. Walked out a bit found 13fow. Went just a bit more and found 45fow. Think if we had a  little more time we would have found them.
