It can be alot of fun with small hooks on tip ups for perch and its legal.
Some like to use rockers /tip downs and they will keep you busy with the perch.
Good luck and have fun.

I know there's plenty of skim ice going on in the Waddington area (as of yesterday). Safe ice with these temps could be right around the corner when talking about BB/Coles. Hoping to be out by Tuesday any info please post. Tight lines fellas!

Checked out Eel today. Ice was building pretty good. Measured about 1 1/2-2 inch of good ice with another 1 1/2 of white snow ice about 200 feet out. Wouldnt call it completly safe, but I still jigged up a couple dink perch from the three feet of water I was standing on. Lake of the Isles is mush ice and snow. Not even close to safe. Red Lake is still open water with just a little bit of skim and snow around the shore.

All I got to say about that is:  "They better know where they going on the lake!"  First ice on Black Lake can be quite treacherous.  Lots of current, in places.  Limited access means not a lot of choices.  Just say'n.

I need a little more ice than that but I don't think it's gonna be too long before I'm up there doing some hard water fishing.

Headed out on Champlain in the am can't wait five inches of good black ice with a inch of water then snow ice on top but should set up tonight for a total of seven inches. Will post back tomorrow night how I did

Fish lower  Chateaugay lake this evening  for a few hours. Ice is good two layers 1-2 then 4" of slush then another 5-6 of black.
Hammered the perch but most dinks

Great to get out though for the first time

Fished the St. Lawrence for the first time today with Harrops26.

Caught a bunch of short eyes only one keeping. Wish the size limit would have been 15 like Oneida would have limited out the first hour.

Weather was pretty good spots where getting pretty slush by the end of the day.  Ice was still really good.

Nice job on the eye Hess.  went to colby in the am and no luck at all. headed Back out to the St.Lawrance and managed to hook into a few short walleye's. good times. I think i let that big perch's brother go last night.

My Biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my gear for what i said i paid for it.

Thanks guys.  Nice jumbo hicks wish we would have figured out we where fishing the same spot Friday morning a little earlier.

Fished lowery chateaugay lake today for two hours after doing some rabbit hunting.  I got on the perch but tons of dinks did end up with 8 eaters

Well, quite a few new faces and out of towners flocking out to our NNY  limited tributary river waters which means one thing and one thing only. Loose lips sink ships!
However, it's a good thing most people have no clue what to do out there except take up valuable space. Especially with those things with those orange and red flags pointed east and west....and never north. Oh yeah, and thank you to the worthless slob that left red 50lb line half spooled half acting as a trip wire across a steep path that wrapped around me and my gear this morning. I was really upset, but then looked at the red rope and laughed knowing that there would never be fish on the other end.
Locals. Please stop talking. Do you really want a Coles Creek Pt.2???
People from Buffalo, Rochester and VT. Study your maps. Get a clue. Stop being lazy and I promise you will find fish. You have Chautauqua, Erie, Ontario, Silver, Oneida and Champlain... Seriously?
