That's where they get you, at least at the Dickson City store.  The sale is UP TO 40% off, most of the discounts are 15% or less.  The only 40 % off stuff I saw was some of the clothes.  The guns and ammo is 5% off and most of the fishing stuff was either 10, 15, or 20% off.

I didn't see any 40% discounts on any of the ice gear.  One of the funniest things I saw was they had an older Winchester Model 94 in .30-30 that was obviously refinished and they wanted $2,600, which was the discounted price.  I had to laugh when another customer yelled out holy s**t when he saw the price tag.

There's a tiered system based on when stores need to close. Those stores set to close for good started discounts almost two months ago. Ice by me started at 30 and is now 50%, activewear, outerwear and marine are all 40%. Fishing reels, rods and electronics are all 25-30%.

Guns and ammo by me started at 5% and is now 15 on guns, 20 on ammo.

The deals at your store will get better, its just a matter of how long you wanna wait vs will what you want still be there.

I just received this email recently:

An Important Message to Gander Mtn. Customers from Marcus Lemonis, CEO of Camping World & Good Sam.
We are delighted to announce that Gander Mtn. is now part of the Camping World & Good Sam family following Camping World’s successful bid for certain Gander Mtn. assets in a bankruptcy auction in April. At Camping World & Good Sam, we place a high value on customer satisfaction and our goal is to keep as many as 70 or more Gander Mtn. stores open following the bankruptcy liquidation process. Following the liquidation process, you’ll also see a fresh release of GanderMountain.com. By leveraging Camping World & Good Sam’s scale, operating infrastructure, and product expertise, we will be able to provide new products and services to the Gander Mtn. customer. We are very excited for the next chapter of Gander Mtn. as part of the Camping  World & Good Sam family of companies.

As part of the transaction, ownership of the Gander Mtn.’s customer database is being transferred to a Camping World & Good Sam subsidiary that will operate the new business. Camping World & Good Sam will continue to abide by the existing Gander Mtn. privacy policy. In the event that there are any significant changes to the applicable privacy practices in the future, you will have an opportunity to decide whether to opt out of or accept such changes before they are implemented.

I wonder what's going to happen to all the credit card accounts people had with them.  Since the credit cards were only good in Gander Mountain and they're going out of business what's going to happen to them meaning where's the money going to go when people pay their bills?  I can't imagine the balances will be cancelled out and they won't be able to have everyone pay off whatever balance they have by a specific date.

The GM Private Label Card is what I believe you're referring to. That got cancelled about 2-3 weeks ago.  Not sure what bank issued the card, but I'm sure it'll most likely have to be paid off. The Mastercard is still a go.

I was running a background check 2 weeks ago and our ATF booths are about 8ft away from Customer Service. A woman had a two arms full of clothes and went to check out using her PL card. When she found out the card was no longer accepted, she threw the whole load across the lane and over by me. She was screaming, "WHY WONT YOU A-HOLES TAKE MY MONEY????".  Explaining to her did no good and it got to the point where we had to ask her to leave.  Not even 3 minutes later she walked in, waltzed over to her clothes pile that was 2 ft from me and said, "My boyfriend wants this shirt" and pulled it from the pile. I told her that the only way she's getting it is if she cleans up the mess she made. To my surprise, she did. And she smiled, shook my hand and said she was sorry.

She then walked over to the checkout line and exploded again (after checking out)......" YOU Merrr Frrs WONT TAKE MY Fn MONEY!!!!"

Honestly, it's out of our control, but I'm with customers with that card and gift cards. No reason why they shouldn't be able to use them until Gander's doors are closed. The gift cards especially, those are paid for, that's money already in the bank.

I don't know the laws where you're at but here in Pennsylvania a few years ago the state passed a law regarding gift cards banning expiration dates on gift cards because some stores would only honor them for a certain amount of time.  I'm pretty sure that under this law they'd have to honor the gift cards here in Pennsylvania.

Yeah we had the same thing happen here in WI and all of GM's expiring GCs were re-issued for ones that didn't. I'm no lawyer, but I think Bankruptcy trumps that.

52isntbigenough sorry you and other Gander Mountain/Gander Outdoors employees will have to deal with such behavior from customers. I believe some people think if they make a big enough disturbance they will get what they want from the store. That lady had some moxie to come back so soon after her first outburst.
Gander Mountain should have sent out letters to all the private label credit card holder stating the card was no longer valid and how long you have to pay off any balance on your account.
By store entrances and at checkout there should be signs informing customers that private label credit cards and gift cards are no longer valid and will not be accepted as payment for any purchases. Also I would ask for uniformed security personal to be stationed at check out counters.

That's one of the problem with our country, people acting like babies throwing temper tantrums if they don't get their way.  People need to grow up and accept the fact that they're not going to get their way all the time.  If I was the manager of the store I would've tossed her out when she tried to come back in.

The problem of people being rude, imho, was sorta brought on by the liquidators and GM. The signage is confusing and to some, a bit misleading. Gander Mtn the company had plenty of time to inform credit card customers and gift card customers of the changes to their use. Everything seemed to happen so rapidly, it was hard for us to keep up with, much less customers.

That said, some customers believe that this is a time to haggle, a time for 90% off and a time to do whatever they wish because "gander is done, who cares?".  When those folks don't get what they expect, bad things are happening. I'm sorry, no discount, lack of discount or unmet expectation gives any customer the right to swear at employees, throw things at employees or toss merchandise around. All of which has happened at my location. I've never seen police escort out customers until we fell into liquidation.

To me, helping folks find the best deal for their money while getting them the merchandise they need to enjoy the outdoors is what kept me going for all these years. I like helping people. This liquidation makes it very difficult to enjoy interaction. Sometimes I find myself saying, "you know something? The way we interact with folks now is setting a base for what they're expectations will be when Gander Outdoors opens".

Gander hasn't had a great reputation for customer service, that needs to change in order for the new Gander to be looked at favorably. Now is the time to try to help that change and some folks are making it extremely difficult.

The reputation of the Dickson City Gander Mountain is, well let's just say colorful.  They're known for having some bad employees to say the best.  At one time they fired an entire crew that worked the gun counter because they would buy used guns, put the price they paid on the sales tag, hide them away in the store room until the night before the employee sale then put them on the shelves and buy them at the employee sale.  There was some real gems the worked the gun counter.  The one time I was in there and there were these three guys in their early to mid-twenties working the gun counter and they were arguing about football teams so loudly it caught my attention from three rows away.  I took a walk over to see what was going on and the one had a pistol in his hand, pointed it at one of the other guys and told him I should just shoot you.  I couldn't believe the level of stupidity this guy had, not only to say that with customers walking around but right in front of security cameras.  I went and told the manager what happened and he was acting like it's no big deal.  Another time they had two identical .41 magnum Ruger Blackhawks for sale, one was new and one was used, and the used one was $100 more than the new one.  I asked why the price difference and the salesman said, "we over paid of the used one, we'll get some idiot to pay the higher price".  These are just a few of the things that went on at that store so when it comes to reputation I think it's pretty safe to say no matter what they do it's going to be really tough to change things around.

I made a visit to my local store yesterday looking for an Okuma Ignite model 40 a reel guess I waited to long selection of reels in store was very limited. I agree with 52isintbigenough signage is confusing by entrance big sign say entire store merchandise 40% off once inside store another sign giving percent off by department or merchandise category. Why is there this sign if everything is supposed to be 40% off? Also talked with an employee who did not know the private label Gander Mountain credit cards had been cancel and were no longer being accepted as a method of payment. The liquidation company is also sending items to Gander stores that it has acquired from other liquidations many of these items were never carried by Gander Mountain which I see leading to future problems when a customer who bought one of these items comes back to purchase the item again only to find out it is no longer part of Gander Mountain/Outdoors inventory.
IFF/52isintbigenough all the best to you gentlemen as the whole bankruptcy process occurs and the new Gander opens this Fall.

I think the reason they put up the big sign saying the entire store merchandise is 40% off is to get people to come into the store.  The problem with that is it's not true and it p*sses off the customers and creates aggravation for the employees.

Chris I totally agree with you, my humble opinion is the liquidation company is just looking at how much profit it can make selling Gander's remaining inventory plus items it had acquired from other liquidations.

Curious ,  seems to me if the new owner really cared about the people that worked at these stores they would have conducted their own sale and left the liquidators out of it JMO , far as the liquidators I don't think they are in it to lose money

Very few items are the 40 and 60% off in my observation   It says "up to " which if one item is that which most of the time is the case, they are not lying, does make u think it all is that much off !!
