Went fishing in the boat this last weekend.  Half the lake was frozen.  I figured it all was just a skim of ice - which most was.  But there bottleneck area I went through that almost stopped my boat as i went through it.  Had to actually give 'er a little gas to push through.  It was over an inch thick.  Good news is - I am in the lower 48 (northern North Dakota).  Bad news is that ice is probably gone by now.  Wont be long tho.

Every night we get some ice, and by afternoon it's gone. All we need is a good week below 32 and we'll be fishing.   Thanks for all the pics guys!!

Well it looks like it's safe to head out for a little hardwater action around here now.   ;D
And with forcasted highs of -11C to -17C over the next week we should make a little more ice to make things even safer. I'm not one of these ice nuts that walk out on paper thin ice so this is good news for me. I doubt anyone else in tow has gone yet as I don't think there are really that many people that do ice fish here. Pretty strange when you think the place is frozen from late October to May!!!!  ::)
Here is our local ice report for the waters inside the city limits. They update it every weekend, but stop taking measurements when they reach 6" of ice.
Time to hit the ice!!!

Drifter,

Thanks for the update, i was kind of wondering how the lakes further up north were looking for ice.  In your opinion are you behind in making ice for this time or year, right on track, or ahead compared to years past?  Thanks!

I would say a little behind as it's been warmer than normal so far this winter.
I'm still wearing short sleves and a fleece to go to work. I should be in long sleeves and snowmobile coat by now.
I think that will be tomorrows outfit!!! A high of -17C tomorrow with lows of -24C tonight BBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
Time to plug in the car!!!!!   ;)

We are getting scum ice on the ponds at night but it's been raining on and off and warm durring the day so the water is ready it just needs the air to catch up. I might take a ride a little further up in the mtns. to see if the ice is catching hold. all we need is a good cold snap to help it take.

I just noticed this thread so I'll post up my first ice report of the season.  :)
I couldn't take waiting for ice any longer so I went west and found my self some! 4" of solid clear beautifull ice!! B)
Monday November 23rd 2009

First fish through the ice.

Right after I landed this beauty a whole pile of coyotes started yippin and howling like crazy VERY close nice way to end day one!  :) 2 fish landed a dozen more fought and lost.

Tuesday November 24th 2009
My uncle joined me this time and we tried going further out. The ice was singing and cracking like crazy and at time it sound like a bunch of lazers off of star wars!! The Bows were on fire we landed over 40 and lost half as many. What a battle they put up on the ice rods!! Heres a few pics from tuesday.

Nice fish!!! You're making me jealous. It is supposed to hit 62 degrees F here today and I just finished washing the windows on my shack. Last year we were on about 5" of ice at this time. Some of the small sloughs have a light film, but that is all around here so far.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

[quote autho   yep it should not be long I was out driving around this past sunday morning and found a lite coat of ice on most local lakes, a week of below 32 and we will be in good shape, yes last year we were fishing on 5" of ice the week after deer season, I think we will be close to a month later than last year for us in northern Wisconsin, Cant Waite  ;D

You luck Canada folks!

Small lakes and ponds were froze over this morning, looks like it's supposed to cool off finally too.  Two weeks, i'm hoping to get out.

Negative double digit lows all week, and negative double digit highs on the weekend are gonna push ice making into the next gear around here.  Big lakes soon... soon...

This early ice video is awesome, especially in full-screen mode.  Great production, looks very professional.  The underwater view of the fish release was a nice touch, too.  Thanks for posting it.

I'm in northeast Wisconsin about 40 miles from Iron Mountain.  No ice yet, but we are supposed to start the temp. slide tonight.  Going in to the mid teens tonight upper twenties to freezing for highs.

I hope we don't get hit with much snow until we have plenty of ice.

Here in upstate New York it's around 35°F,  getting into about the mid to high 20's during the night. Any ice that does get produced throughout the night is melted by mid day, how frustrating. In the next ten days the lowest projected temp. is 28°F...

I'm on several bass fishing sites.  When I talk about ice fishing the southern boys think we are all nuts! :o  I got to admit around the end of March I start to think so too, but right now I'm looking forward to it.

That Clipper that dipped down into ND and MN has even some of the bigger waters iced over.  I'm going to inspect the bluegill pond today.  With a two-week stretch under freezing, we should be good by the 19th, for foot travel, right?

Any MN reports this weekend?  How about in the arrowhead?
