? safe ice for the weekend?

How thick is the ice on metro lakes? Is it still safe to go? I want to take my kid out on Saturday but am very leery of how thick the ice is. I am in Woodbury and looking for any nearby lakes. Or even thinking about Polk County in Wisconsin (Balsam, Deer, etc.)
