UMaine Fishing Club Pushaw Pike Derby

Calling all Black Bear Alum's and Maine Ice Fishermen and women alike! The University of Maine Fishing Club is hosting a Pike Derby on Pushaw Lake Tomorrow, Saturday March 3rd. We have some sweet youth prizes (Jack Traps, Shappell 5500 Wide House, Heritage traps, FlowFold Gear, and more) and cash prizes for the adult categories and drawing. Winning categories include Total heaviest weight caught of Northern Pike, Heaviest Largemouth Bass, Heaviest White Perch, Heaviest Pickerel. Sure to be a good time for all! Who's in?!

Adult (18 and older) and Youth (17 and under)

Curious how this event went today.  Any participants care to share the experience?   Those putting it on seemed to really express the desire to make this a successful first event.  Unable to make this year's as I had already volunteered for a speaking engagement; might try to make it next year if held again.

Made the trip out to support the club..  Well run tournament...prices were top notch .. ease of getting on- off ice was very good with plenty of parking.  Game warden showed up and spent sometime chatting with everyone, he expressed pleasure with the college kids and their efforts so that was good to hear from a man that I'm sure has seen a lot of these tournaments.  The winds were tough but there still was a good turnout. The best part was they were talking about what can be done different for next year so it looks like there is enthusiasm to make it an annual event.

It was a great day but wicked windy! That hurt the number of people I think but we done well with 1st place bass at 5.51lbs and caught a bunch of Crappie  No pike caught for the derby that day
