tonight's burbot
« on: Feb 21, 2004, 04:03 AM »
My buddy Josh and i went fishing tonight. It was a bit slow, but we both ended up with 4 burbot.  I caught the big one, estamated about 10 pounds.  Kinda cold out, -10 at the airport on the way back, colder on the river, but we had fun anyway... oh yeah, put my aqua-vu down, didn't see any burbot on it, but i did happen to see a nice whitefish.

me with my big one of the night, about 10 pounds

josh with a good one on

me with a good one one

josh with a 7+ pounder

josh with yet another 7+ pounder

me with a little one

me with yet another little one.

actually that burbot was pretty fat, the picture doesn't do it justice.  it took me a bit just to get it to come through an 8 inch hole. I'm from fairbanks alaska and i was river fishing.

Nice fish. I haven't ever caught one of those before. I noticed one of you were using an Ugly Stick. I only have one of those for ice fishing. The rest of my rods are cheapo's, but my openwater rods are all Ugly Sticks. I think they are great rods for the money.

The early bird might get the worm but the second mouse will always get the cheese...

the rods are great, but the real that came with it was really cheep.. that can be remidied though.  Although if you get too big of fish on they are a little on the light side and you loose some action in the fight.

I have never caught anything over a 2# walleye on mine. Perfect for eating. If thats the case, I wouldn't want to use my other ice rods on any of the fish you catch. The cheapo rods are great for perch, croppie, the rainbows we have here, small walleye, etc. If I was to go anywhere else, I would probably want a better rod.
