Last night it dropped to 25 degrees, and some of the smaller sloughs and bodies of water have a thin layer of ice on them. It isn't going to last, with this weekend warming up to the 60's. But next week, it's cooling off again, and next weekend the highs are only in the 30's and lows in the teens. Get you gear ready boys, it's coming! And the sooner the better, I've been ready and excited to get on the ice for over 2 months now. Can't wait!

I went to New Underwood Dam and Curlew last week. The fishing was lousy but I did see a couple of prairie ponds iced over. New Underwood water temp was 40 degrees.

Bags are packed, I'm ready to go.

I'd better top off the Vex battery and start the auger.

Temps are heading in the right direction !!

running a little behind weather wise here. Still got a little more to do get blades, spool 1 tip up, spool up a couple reels, and put a tip on a ultralight rod :almost ready
-
I've been busy getting stuff ready for the past couple months. I've been looking at contour maps and marking spots I want to try this winter. I bought a few new rod/reel combos, so I had to string them up. I built a new storage box for the back of my atv, I mounted a Hummingbird gps/fish finder to the atv. I'm not going to use it for fishing, but wanted it for the gps capability. Bought some new tackle and just yesterday ordered a new tackle bag from Cabelas on their pre black Friday sale. Once that gets here, I'll have to organize all my tackle. Then the last 2 things to do is get the flip over shanty out and ready, and put gas in the auger and fire it up. I'll be ready by the time we get fishable ice!

Im hoping to be on ice here in northern iowa the 2nd or 3rd week of december
-
Its gonna be freezing or below in the hills for the next 48 hrs. That otta skim things over.

With rain the last 2 days here, we had quite a few big puddles left over, and with the cold temps last night, they were all froze this morning. Some of them didn't even crack when I drove over them with the truck. The only thing that saved the big bodies of water from skimming over last night was the 30-40 mph winds! Blew all night, and all day again today, but that should help with turning the lakes over and the next calm cold night, there will be ice, and with the future forecast of temps, once we get that first 1/2" I don't think it'll open up again and should start making good ice with the cold temps at night! I'm guessing first or second week in December we'll have some fishable ice!
Good Luck to all the deer hunters this coming weekend! BE SAFE!

Man its really snowing here in Rapid City. We have an inch on the ground and its still falling steady. This will get the water temps down to where they need to be. I think we'll be on time this year. I just put a turkey in the smoker and I'm making a batch of jerky cuz I'm off today and enjoying the snow!

We didn't get any snow up in the NE corner, but down in the SE corner, they got hammered! My uncle works in Harrisburg, and he sent me a picture of a complete whiteout. They supposedly got 12"-15". I wouldn't mind an inch or two to cool everything down, but I sure as hell don't want a foot of snow already! They can keep it down south!

Early this morning I had -8 in hill city and -10 south of deerfield.

I think Oyler has a big rubber pike that he holds up every year out on some early ice. It always looks like the same fish. ;D

I'd almost have to believe you, but now he posted a video of him catching it. Still can't figure out where the hell he is though.... Gotta be Lakota or Stockade.

If there's ice in back of Stockade then that's prolly where he is. I doubt they put pike back in Lakota after they drained and dredged it. I wish they had though.
