Newer Minnow...Rosey Reds...Just didn't work..
« on: Feb 28, 2007, 10:30 PM »
I've been seeing guys on Campbell Lake fishing and pulling up NICE Specks..So, I went to Gillett's Bait store, Spent around $60.00 and got everything..Plastic Minnow Bucket, Battery Operated pump to supply air, Rosey Red Minnows, Little Minnow Net, etc...

Went to Campbell Lake in the early morning on Wednesday..Put down a Rosey Red Minnow, and from 9:00 am, til 2:20 pm...Not ONE hit..

Oh well........I'll just keep the batterys going and try for possibly some Perch there on Saturday..

I HOPE there going to be calling off School on Thursday because of the Ice Storm were having now..

I'll just have to PRAY...then I'll be able to go all day.

I have never had any luck with them. I have tried them on 3 different lakes. I am having good luck with plastics I started using this season.

 Air pump.........?? why??

I have kept several kinds of minnows alive, in a small bait "minnow bucket". For up to 2 weeks, and no dead....at all!
Used to lift the inner bucket(strainer) couple times an evening, to bubble and oxygenate. This year I forgot about that trick, and still no dead minnows!
Did however take them down to the river(here in town) and get new water after about 4 days.

I have seen times when rosie reds are all the fish want and some days
they won't even look at them. That's fishing sometime they work and
other days nothing. A person just has to see what the fish want and
go from there.

Rosies are one of the top baits here in the UP on the local lake I fish.  Are you sure there were fish were you were fishing?  Not sure if you have a grapher or not, but you may just have been where the fish werent if you didnt even get 1 hit

Hey cagetrapper,

Did you watch any of the video from foolafish.com??   Check out carson lands two.  http://www.foolafish.com/files/carson-lands-two.mpg  I sure hope their products are not as fake as this video !!!  Think they should rename it trytofoola-fisherman.

That video is a real knee slapper. Watch him shake the rod when he pulls those dead fish through the hole to make then look lively

Reminds me of a show I saw one time of a guy "catching" redfish in the Gulf of Mexico; they were alive, but they came in practically belly up with no fight whatsoever. Anyone who has caught reds before knows they put up a good fight. These had obviously been in a livewell for about a day. The truth is many big name "anglers" with their own shows go out and catch a bunch of fish, throw them in the livewell, then  go out later with a film crew to film them reeling the fish in. This is done to cut down on expenses, but it also cheats the viewers.
Sorry for the hijack,  but I did catch a nice landlock on a rosy last winter.
