The extra bright maggots from Knutson's look pretty awesome. May have to pick some up.

Anyone ever use Amazon for ordering bait? Quite a bit cheaper, wondering on quality though.

The Knutson's site makes it seem pretty simple.

If ordering live bait, would a person have to worry about below freezing temps during the shipping time? Or would the package be insulated enough to be able to possibly sit in a unheated truck overnight somewhere?

Just stick them in the fridge, take out what you need to go fishing.
As long as their in 34-40 F and in sawdust no issues.
Let em get warm and you got a lot of flies.

I’ve considered mail order bait the last couple of seasons but after ~$20 in shipping, for the amount I use in a season, it is more cost effective for me to buy in bulk locally.

Yeah, I checked one of those retailers, and the bait was $12, and shipping was $15.  No thanks!!   ;D

Just ordered 500 from them. Nice to support a WI company and $20 including shipping seems to be the best deal around. Thanks for the recommendation!

i've been using JA-DA for years, they're pretty awesome! they don't have the colored maggots other companies do, but honestly i haven't seen that much of a difference at all between colored and natural maggots. the price is nice too!

Yeah ..I love colored spikes ...not certain the fish are so picky .Just don't order between Christmas and New Years or during a predicted cold snap ...shipping is slow during the holidays and Ja Da wont ship during a cold snap.

Good god no way.

I just got 2,000 spikes from Dakota Angler for $23, any place online will cost double or in many cases triple that after shipping. Knutson's is $57 for 2,000 spikes shipped to Iowa.

If you're anywhere within a half hour of the IGL or Sioux Falls there's zero reason to order it online.

I ordered colored spikes from vados for years, but now I get 1000 white spikes for 10 bucks from a local bait store.price is great and I catch just as many fish with the white spikes vs. multi colored ones.

After talking to the local bait shop owner I have found that I can buy them in bulk from him for the same cost I was paying for them online. At first online looks cheap, but once they hit you with the shipping I might as well keep my money local.

I agree. Todd's got my bait business for a long time, even if I could find it cheaper. Haven't found anything that matches his quality anywhere close. Just remember to get your card punched!

It's more for convienence than a savings.
I travel up to 2 hours in any direction.
Don't want to deal with bait shops that won't even have colored spikes anyways.
Hate depending on anyone, especially for bait.

I work in a pet store, too expensive if you need more than just a quick day trips worth now and then.  I go get my wax worms at a reptile expo that happens in January for the same bulk price as online.

From my experiance when ordering bait online, one needs to keep in mind where it is coming from. I've ordered from Jada, and knutsuns in the past. While a touch cheaper then Vadoos for me, it wasn't worth it. Reason being is a one day ship was impossible from them. The bait sat in cold temps on the truck then sat on my porch in freezing temps. By the time I got it and went into the fridge the bait had a tuff life already and wax worms were turning black already.  I found Vadoos to be the fastest ship giving be the best quality bait and into the fridge.

Even if you don't buy online, at least check out the Ja-Da bait website and read about storage and care of your bait, will save you dollars down the road.
