I was out fishing in the boat today in the Mississippi river in LaCrosse... had to break our way through 1/2" of ice with the boat to get out of the marina... it won't be long now!!! There's a lot of ice on the backwaters around too.... and by alot... i mean area... NOT thickness...lol

Walked down to the dock (Tainter Lake) and the ice was able to support my weight. It cracked when I bounced my weight on it. I don't feel safe going out on it, but tomorrow afternoon I am going to go try and fish.

2 inches of ice in the Rhinelander area. Was able to set some tip-ups on a lake yesterday. Did not feel totally comfortable but I did wear a life jacket! Worried about the big snow storm on the way for Wednesday. that will not help the ice building in my opinion.

Yea, we don't need the heavy snow thier predicting, especially since the temps will be dropping right after the snow.

Wind lake was wide open this morning, the big snow won't hurt it, but my buddy's 30 acre pond has 2 inches on it, should be ready by the weekend.

With winter storm Allison approaching, and snow predictions ranging from 8-12 inches  :o How much do you think this will affect early ice? I still hope to be out on the ice this weekend!  ;D

Do any of you guys know how much ice is on Boom Lake? I am going over for the Tourney in two weeks and was just wondering.

Thanks in advance,

@wi iceguy - I'm predicting that the wind will keep the snow off the ice, and the temps after the storm will freeze up everything for the season...

ice fishing has begun in central wisconsin

On the ice right now. First fish was a 22" snot rocket. Small 100 acre lake. 2 to 2.5in of real good ice.  This snow is not something we need at this moment. Oh well at least I got on!!!!

Approximately 8" of blowing and drifting snow here in Rusk County.  Hopefully it blows off of the lakes. I was going to try a small lake friday, I'm not sure now.......?

Everyone just take it easy as you might be venturing out on lakes this weekend. This snow could really kill hte ice that we had.... just use precautions!!

Iceshanty- lets see another! that was awesome. Well, i think the bigger lakes around me are still open, so the snow won't affect them too much, so the single digits the next couple of says will get some ice goin! maybe sunday ill be out..
Whether its hard or soft, I'll fish em both

Has anyone been to a lake to see how the snow has affected it?    I will not be out until Sunday now, so I am hoping with the cold temps it will be just fine.

If the lakes are still open... the snow will actually help you by helping to drop the water temp... good luck!!

I'm planing on fishing Burnet Island in Cornell this sat. I know there's guys fishing there already. Does anybody in the Eau Claire area know if Altoona, or Wissota are even skimmed over yet??
