Jerry rigging a boat transducer
« on: Mar 10, 2020, 08:16 AM »
There have been many diff versions posted to make a reg Xducer suitable for ice fishing. I did 1 myself a few years back but now I have a reg bullet type iceducer. There were some versions on here that were a bit more slick than mine but I can't find any right now.---e.g My friend just bought his first FF and i would like to pass on some suggestions to make the conversion. Any links or suggestions---thx

Seen some pictures of  IS members looping the transducer cable and then zip tie it to the transducers mount … getting the transducer to sit level..pretty EZPZ.

mine is mounted in the end of square aluminum tubing, saved from an old porch. I clamp it to transom and put a float on it for winter. a chunk of pipe insulation or swim noodle. could probably just use swim noodle alone to float it in a hole tho.  could just sit the ducer in shallow hole of water next to fishing hole.E

took the broken spool off an old trap, then mounted my ducer right where the spool went
easy to adjust to get the best reading
i use in the same hole
good luck

Yup and you can stick a round bubble level to the top of the transducer to make leveling it easy.

Thx for the suggestions---I will pass them along to my bud. I am a bit puzzled by the 'trap' though. I assume you mean a tip-up. The tip-ups I have seen have the axis of the spool vertical so if you were to mount the xducer on that it would be shooting horizontally. I must be missing something here.

Is it really? I thought it originated in WW II when the Germans were referred to as Jerries but has lost any of that meaning since then.

From the internet....

Jury-rigged means something was assembled quickly with the materials on hand. Jerry-built means it was cheaply or poorly built. Jerry-rigged is a variant of jury-rigged, and it may have been influenced by  jerry-built. While some people consider it to be an incorrect version of jury-rigged, it’s widely used, especially in everyday speech.

a bit deeper on the origin of the term

"Jerry rigged" to refer to expedient work by the Germans in WWII

(In order to kill jews).

I've used 1/4 inch strips of aluminum drill spots and hook to regular bracket (boat) then on top drill holes in strips and use a aluminum rod that goes through the top holes and also makes a handle.
