Lose em to what?????
« on: Oct 06, 2006, 09:32 PM »
I'll be the first to admit, I havent been such a devotee to jigging, but with a couple of new Vex's in the family last year, I can see my self hopping around much more.  Here's my question....I see all these pictures of the 100's of jigs that guys have, and I just cant beleive that one would go through that many in a lifetime!!

So, aside from a rogue toothy critter, what do you lose those jigs on?

Rust
Hooks Break
Jigs get stuck in your cloths
drop them down the hole in the snow

Unfortunately alot of my  older jigs from 9-10 yrs ago are starting to rust up pretty bad Especially the Jigging Raps

It isn't necessarily about losing them.
Fish like different jigs on different days. If they aren't biting and you know that they're down there you keep changing your presentation until you find what works.
And plus they're pretty!  8)

More toothy critters. I've have days where I lose 6 or more jigs to pike and pickerel.

Any jig I have used a pike or pickerel(I would think) would totally ignore, they are way to small for them...Are you using bigger jigs?

A pike, even a huge one will hit some of the smallest jigs made.

For me, what I think happens is, you start jigging away in a school or gills, and a hungry pike watching the gillls ia attracted to your jig movement withing the school and hammers it

i normally lose a lot of swedish pimples, because of pickeral and others. That may also be because i use a minnow also...so its either a big crappie or perch, or a pickeral

Nope.....they seem to like to hit the small jigs as much or better then the big ones.

I stand corrected!!!! :D

I haven't ever fished for pike or pickerel, so I have an excuse.  I am planning on trying this winter, just to see what I can get.  Not entirely sure how, but I will be doing my research before I go...I have 2 months to figure it out :'( :'( :'(

I caught this gal on a bigger tear drop, but still made for crappies/perch with a crappie minnow. I was wonderin where my panfish went to. ??? But she was funner than any panfish I've caught, Light action rod and 4 lb test in 19 ft. of water.

The fishing is always great, the catching however, always isn't

I lose a lot of my jigs to my sons and grandsons. Small price to pay to be able to fish with them.

Weeds, twigs, branches, in between rocks, , bad hooksets, weakened knots, weakened line. It is not a matter if you will lose some, just a matter of when. Stay tuned. :%$#!:

When we fish local ponds around my area, I have noticed the big channel cats love those little rat finkees.  I would venture to say that I have lost around 6 or 7 to those dang things.  With 2lb test and an ultralight rod it makes them tough to get up through a 6 inch hole.  I can only set my drag so loose or they will run out all of my line.  It is fun for a minute or two, but then I start cursing after I loose em. ;D
